Twisted Edge had the misfortune to be released after 1080, and it was forever deemed "that snowboarding game that's not as good as 1080". But taken on its own merits, it's a decent game. Boss Game Studio had a pretty consistent track record when it came to their N64 titles.

N64 games released after 2000 had this tendency to slide into oblivion regardless of how good they were. It must have been depressing for 3rd party developers to see their blood, sweat, and tears get ignored like that.

Third party is when the publisher is not Nintendo. Rareware would also be and outside studio, but their games are considered 1st party because they were published by Nintendo (except for Conker, which was THQ).

Not sure about games like Mischief Makers, it was published by Enix originally, and the IP belongs to Enix, but Nintendo published it in the west. I guess it's still third party though, since nintendo didn't really interfere in the development or production at all and just acted as a publisher. But for Excitebike, I'm sure Nintendo produced it, apart from publishing.

They're different, all three of them. MNsG is my favorite overall, to me, it's the definitive Goemon game, like the only 3D Goemon done right.
GGA is 10/10 too, but it's more like the traditional Goemon sidescroller games with updated 2.5D graphics. Co-op is godly.
The 3rd one was a Mario Party-like game, I never tried it.

I'd comment on the music but all Goemon games have 10/10 OSTs. For the record, my favorite Goemon track is on GGA (Majin Castle)

I had both. PC and the N64 port.
I liked the N64 port for what it was. I had a shared computer at the time ( parents and sister ) so being able to play StarCraft while not on the computer, and in the comfort of my room, was fucking awesome at the time.
Also being able to play 2 players, playin' co-op vs computers was pretty cool too. I had a pretty big tv so it worked out well. Doing the campaign all over again on the N64 was like a new challenge. Something fans of StarCraft can appreciate.
I also liked the port of WarCraft 2 on the PSX. Well, Tides of Darkness part anyway. Beyond the Dark Portal requires much quicker reactions and more micro, it's much harder and more fast paced than Tides of Darkness and is REALLY fucking hard on the PSX.

The PC version was fairly awful as well with massive spec bloat and not much gamepad compatibility which meant the Z-Targeting was shit and the game didn't play well at all on PC. I remember a bunch of UK PC magazines reviewing it completely shitting on the port due to the spec bloat but saying "It's not actually a bad game but the N64 version is the version you should be playing if you want to play it". But then that was the state of PC gaming at the time.

It was another "Dream Team" game that Nintendo part funded and the lead platform was N64. Nintendo also gave the Acclaim team some of their tech secrets (Being part of that also meant Nintendo didn't treat you like total fucking garbage as a 3rd party dev for once) and it really was just tooled as a N64 game. Acclaim was bleeding so hard they used the option they had on exclusives like South Park and Shadowman to port to PS1 and Dreamcast to try make extra dough however (DC didn't get any of the Turok engine games like Rage Wars, Turok 3, Armorines or South Park due to the engine being broken as shit that only really worked on N64 and didn't play nice with the Dreamcast).
