Can you read moonrunes? If not then that's a nice paperweight there, OP.

Not like I bought it or anything. Just thought it was cool

>> No.2174583

you can buy copies of Mother 2 for like 20 bucks. But nobody wants those because moonrunes.

Find it weird that nobody wants to buy the original Mother 2 without censorship just because of the language. You'd think people already know the game by heart. I played all 3 Mother games both in english and japanese. I know a little bit of japanese though, so it was interesting to read some different dialogues between eng and original japanese.

I think OP pretty clearly told us that it's the inside of his local game store - i.e. he found the game there and he didn't buy it. People's failure to grasp simple reasoning astounds me.

Sometimes my local used game store gets good imports but for whatever reason prices them easily double what they're worth and puts them in the display case. I have friends who work there and who will generally fudge prices for me on shit the owner is retarded about - works out for both of us because I get good deals and their Z readings look good at the end of the day. They're usually afraid to do it with shit that's in the showcases though for fear he'll specifically note it gone. A SFC copy of Star Ocean sat in there for like a year at $40 for example. Now he's got a bunch of 5200 stuff in there he likely paid too much for recently from a walk-in. I probably will miss out on the Pitfall 2 and trackball I really want even though I raided the 5200 stuff like a year ago thanks to this girl who I fooled around with a couple times before she quit the time before last. The owner's a typical jerky barely-successful small business owners who reliably disgruntles his employees enough that they don't give much of a fuck, especially the ones who are cool & attractive enough to easily find work elsewhere. We have a pretty strong hip-nerd community in our smallish city and I have pretty good OG status in it.

But yeah, I didn't buy that Star Ocean but happily there's an import specific game store in the capital that's cool as fuck. I bought a $10 complete SFC Ogre Battle because I'm continuing to have limited success getting a loose US copy to go with my box and manual. Its small box looks weird sitting on my shelf with SNES boxes though and I probably won't buy more boxed SFC games for that reason.

If you want to play Mother 1 and 2 without censorship most people can just download the GBA Mother 1 + 2 and get the fan translations for it.

>> No.2175567

>>2175563

Funny you mention that, Mother 1 on the GBA includes the NOA censorship (I remember Itoi claiming it was because he quit smoking by the time 1+2 was released on the GBA, and that's why the crows don't have smokes anymore, but it's actually because it's a port of the NOA version of Mother 1, with the censored churches, no blood and simplified dungeons).
Mother 2 remains uncensored, but there isn't a fan translation for it (just a kind of rudimentary menu translation)

I don't see why anyone wouldn't at least start to learn Japanese if they're interested in retro games. There are so many games to play that are in Japanese only and no one is going to bother making a translation patch.

Or if you have like $25 lying around you could get one from Japan too, I guess.

Not the least bit jelly, if such was your intention.

Not only they changed the bar to a cafe, but also they changed the name of the bar owner (Borges in Mother 2, Jackie in Earthbound.)

Pretty sure Borges was a reference to J.L. Borges which I'm sure Itoi likes. The localization team probably couldn't figure out what "Boruhesu" was supposed to be, so they just went with another random name.

My local used vidya store apparently had a visit from a collector recently since there's a ton of PS1 games there now in amazing condition. Some things were appropriately priced but a lot of it got retarded prices (I mean I know Suikoden II is rare as fuck but considering where I live I really doubt anybody's ever gonna pay $400 for the copy they have regardless of condition) but I did pick up Parappa the Rapper and Um Jammer Lammy. Good stuff, even if I'm terrible at them.

they cost way less in Japan, like $5

they are common there, and they are mostly worthless here since no one can read predator

I played the 1+2 retranslation and the crows still smoke by my recollection.

I remember Arino once spotted a Mother 2 cart in some retro store, and he exlaimed "wow, Mother 2 is expensive", it was like 20 bucks (I guess that's expensive for a SFC game since most are around 5 or 10 dollars).
But yeah, it's a common cart, maybe it's just a little bit more expensive than other common carts because it's Mother 2, but it's not rare.

>>2176587

You probably played a hacked version without the censorship. I have the actual 1+2 cart and I can confirm all the changes NOA did to Mother 1 are there on the GBA version (including the extended ending). The good thing about the GBA version is that you can use the R button to run, but the NPCs no longer move like they're having seizures, so basically they fixed the original run button from EB Zero, which was a debug tool originally, and properly implemented it.
