What are the hardest commercial games ever? I've beaten Battletoads, so I want to know how much harder they can come.

Beautiful-looking game, but will make you throw your controller.

Was the megadrive version different from the amiga version? I certainly don't remember it being particularly difficult.

I can beat the whole game without cheating or warping. That level still causes me to die sometimes from some of those jumps, though.

I never once played this on emulator until after I beat the game on console, without warping or cheating. I'm only playing it on emulator for netplay co-op right now, and we still aren't save-stating, lol.

Battletoads isn't even good. It's a disappointment. It's very difficult to a fault. Also I was always under the impression it was a beat 'em up. It's only rarely a beat 'em up. Most of the time it's an on rails auto scroller with ridiculously hard platforming as well.

I wanted to play a beat 'em up. Not a variety game with non sense difficulty curves everywhere. Sadly it could have easily been the best beat 'em up on NES. In fact it could have truly been one of the best ever.

Not in it's current state though. Co op isn't even an option for the game due to a bug. So you can't even say I'm shitting on the game when it has a game breaking bug that bad.

Okay. You're right, it's not a good beat 'em up, and people wrongly call it that. It's mostly a platformer/obstacle course, and I think it's a very good one of those, albeit with some rough spots, sure. P.S. not the guy you responded to

>> No.2170629

That co op bug takes place in I think the second to last level, Clinger Winger. Seeing two people get that far would be pretty nuts. Especially because you're always killing each other.

Battletoads is no cakewalk, for sure, but I don't think I'm being some kind of wannabe hardcore poser when I say it's pretty standard when it comes to "arcade difficulty" games, like shmups and the like.

In terms of NES games, I would say that Castlevania 3, TMNT, and either Ninja Gaiden 2 or 3 (I remember one of them being much harder than 1, can't remember which or why) are all significantly harder than Battletoads.

Battletoads was a game where I always felt like I was getting a little better at it each time I played, not many sections are individually hard but mistakes are a slow drain on your stock of lives. The other games I mentioned all had sections that made me feel like "fuck it, I'm never going to get past this."

I saw a co-op playthrough years ago (I think the guys' youtube name was BattletoadGods or something like that) but never seen one live. I assume this is the PAL version? Also I wonder if these are the same guys who did that run I watched.

Oh, haha, it's the NTSC version and they're letting P2 die so they can continue. I knew that was possible but did think anyone would actually do a run that way.
