I always have a hard time understanding these things when they don't go to the trouble to make a multi picture response. Even then its kind of a matter of opinion whether or not those things are good or bad.

We should really put a one sentence translation at the bottom unless its obviously making fun of the game.

Soul Blazer was good, just a bit more primitive when compared to the rest. I played it, then Gaia, then Terranigma, and it's easy to see Terranigma as the culmination of the themes and gameplay set on Soul Blazer.

>>2158006
Soul Blazer's story is more simple, but the gameplay is a lot less linear. Gaia's is extremely linear. And I think Terranigma is better than Gaia. More fluid gameplay, better story, and even some sim elements that harken all the way back to ActRaiser.

All three are really good games, anyway. Quintet was really something special. Try them out if you can.

Thanks. Honestly AoE is great fun, one of the best RTS games ever made, but holy cow was siege overpowered.

Also what is the image making fun of? If a wolf attacks a villager while gathering resources, the villager will get up and stab it. I just ran a map editor just to check. It's not a problem.

Final Fantasy VII, like Citizen Kane, revolutionized its medium and is a common turning point historians can point to when it comes to the evolution of the artform. Modern audiences trying it out for the first time will either love it or hate it, and even the later group would have to give it its due when it comes to influencing what came after, else play the retarded contrarian.

>revolutionized its medium
FFVII is fucking amazing, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here.

I'd say it was more important because it created a huge wave of interest in JRPGs in the west, and gave the genre a boost in prestige. Whenever people think of JRPGs, they think of VII, and VII is probably the most pop-culture relevant JRPG in the world and Square( and later ENix) tried many times to reproduce the success. Which isn't bad, if something is to be emulate, at least emulate something as awesome as FFVII, but beyond those things it didn't achieve too much.

Besides, it was one genre, to say it revolutionized games as a whole would indicate it had an effect on platformers, shooters, etc.

There are better JRPGs in general, hell, it isn't even the best on the PS1. Suikoden 2 takes that prize.

You can swap FFVII and the other games you mentioned with Citizen Kane and films that preceded it/came out around the same time.
All the individual elements were there, but Final Fantasy VII/Citizen Kane brought them together in such a way its influence was felt years after, even in game/film genres that were completely different.
And I actually agree with you on Suikoden 2, but it wasn't as influential or culturally important as FFVII and was rather the last hurah of the more traditionally 2D JRPG, bringing the best the generation past had to offer into one glorious send-off

Going full autism here, but I figure this should help clarify. Alot of this is coming from memory, so if I am off feel free to correct me.

The Empire controls the whole southern continent, and by the end of the WoB the Doma region as well. It took over Maranda, and maybe Albrook an Tzen(I can't remember, it's been awhile).

We can guess that Figaro encompasses most of the central northern continent, namely from the fact that there is South Figaro, a dead giveaway. The empire took the southern part, as well as the eastern mountains, over during there attacks on South Figaro and The Returner's base.

Kohlingen is too small and rustic to be considered the capital of a country, and it doesn't seem to be tied with Figaro in any way. It is also, to my knowledge at least, never confirmed whether the empire took them over or just attacked them, but there was no imperial influence so I won't count it. Jidoor also doesn't seem to be tied with Figaro, and since it is full of wealthy people I can assume it is probably center of trade, inferring it may be the capital of an republic or oligarchy, or leader of city-states in the east. They also don't say whether they are allied with anyone, so we can assume they are there own entity. Zozo is Zozo, it is Jidoor's shanty town.

We can guess that Doma controled most of the east, Nikeah never clarified on there allegiance, but we'll put it there because. The Phantom Forest may also be part of Doma due to the fact that it has railroad tracks and an actual train, so someone must have put those there at some point and Domans are the only people around.

The Veldt is considered the "Wild West(hence the theme)", and that, coupled with the fact that it is teeming with monsters, we can assume not many people live there. Mobliz is also a very small town, so given it's placement and size we can guess it may be the equivalent to a frontier village. The people never say who there mother country is, so for now it remains a mystery.

cont.

Narshe seems separate from Figaro or Doma, they have their own army(albeit very small) and dialogue with them early in the game seems to point toward the fact that they are an independent city-state.

Thamasa is a hidden village on a semi-remote island, so we can probably guess they have no real government outside of the mayor.

That's kind of my point. It's not necessarily a bad game because i'm not the grumpy old dude that hates modern games and etcetera, it's kind of fun even. But it's NOT Max Payne anymore. Nothing that made the first two games so charming is there anymore. Why even bother naming the game as the third part of the series if not to cash in on it? This kind of behavior that bothers me. Alan Wake is far from being Max Payne 3 too but they did it better than Max Payne 3 because Remedy still cared about their golden child. It's sad seeing franchises you like being sold out and killed like this.

It "revolutionized all games" in the sense that it was the absolute Biggest Deal in the World at the time, and so, had a big influence on games in general at that time. The same can be said of Super Metroid and Metal Gear Solid, for example.

I'm not going to argue for FF7 being a masterpiece, but it is a game with very many elements, which were each executed very finely.

You are right, but I see revolution in games as something that effects not only how games are perceived, but the way they are made and the choices going into their design. FF7 had a huge impact in terms of being big, a game everyone else knew about, but it never affected the Mario next game Nintendo was making, or the next Street Fighter Capcom would make.

Saying it revolutionized gaming would be more accurate, it heightened our expectations on a genre and proved games could be cinematic experiences. However to say it revolutionized all games, each individual game in a genre, is going a bit far.
