Again, How were their games unique?

Do you honestly think making a thread like this and not even explaining why you think something about them is unique is a good idea for a discussion?

They had lots of offbeat ideas and concepts, and the quality of their games tended to fall in this zone where they weren't bad, but had a lot of quirks and irregularities ("DECO physics" is a term often used among Japanese gamers to describe their slightly wonky physics, often with regards to jump movement).

Dude, they ripped off street fighter 2 shamelessly with their fighting history dynamite. And dont try to bullshit me: from the character select screen to the fucking lifebars and timer the game was downright stealing from street fighter 2. The rip off was so blatant that they got sued by capcom.

Highly doubt you're one of those two morons I replied to, but goodjob actually giving people something to read and discuss.

After all, that's the point of a message board.

My favorite data east game is Side Pocket.
It has great music and somehow great atmosphere even though it's just a billiard game.

I feel the nightlife within it.

Pretty much everyone had their own Street Fighter 2 ripoff in that era, so I wouldn't really condemn Data East for that.

Also the lawsuit was supposedly mostly to do with the fact that they copied SF's 6 button setup. Remember that at the time SF2 came out, that was a hell of a lot more buttons than the typical arcade cabinet had, and they had their own hardware specs for it and such that went beyond the JAMMA standards. Which means you could be getting into the realm of patent law and such. It's telling that when the sequel came out, it switched to the Neo Geo hardware and adopted its 4 button setup.
>>2135930
The original Fighter's History isn't all that great, but the sequel Fighter's History Dynamite is one of the more decent SF2 clones of that era. It does still have its glitches and balance issues, but it's still playable enough to be enjoyable. There's even still a small tournament scene for it in Japan.

Wasn't Tyrian/Tyrian 2000 made by Data East? I don't quite remember. Which is funny because I play the game now and then, and recently played it. I found out something i had no idea about all of these years...when it's december, an option comes up when you load the game to turn on Christmas Mode. I was like wtf is this. Turns all the weapons/projectiles and shit into christmas themed stuff. I was firing motherfucking candycanes, man. Good stuff.

I don't think they did. Labyrinth came out late June, 1986 and I can find a preview for Brataccas that dates back to March that same year showing off the box art done by Roger Dean. If they had him on board doing work that early, then it's very likely they had the logo before Labyrinth had posters up.

Bad Duded, Tumble Pop, Magical Drop series, Trio the Punch, Boogie Wings, Diet Go! Go!, Joe & Mac series, Skull Fang, Spin Master, Wolf Fang...I love Data East.

They are also the creators of Metal Max and Hercules no Eiko series (which have been later bought from other companies and made new, awesome sequels). Still we haven't seen any Metal Max localized for DS. I hope someday will see fan-traslations for all Metal Max games on DS.

intro plays then big boss theme plays then Turrican loads up and shoots and stretches into the sky with the classic Turrican theme playing with the three of the bosses in the background

MEGA TURRICAN explosions and fire

I have that entire sequence branded into my memory
