grow some balls and do the irresponsible thing. go get that afterburner, dude. fuck your job, if it's so shitty that you can't be absent ONE day, you should be doing something else entirely. ten years from now, you'll regret not being able to tell the story when you skipped your shit job to get one of your dream machines. I skipped mine with a friend one day, and came back with an Aero City and three Capcom Impress units. I drove a truck to randomville, dumbfuckistan, and it was great. just do it man, you'll regret it otherwise

How fucking depraved have we become as a people where basic woodwork is beyond the scope of the average man?

To Hell with any man who cannot build a basic arcade cab out of wood. It's not a complicated venture!

I've seen some nice rare as fuck games pop up in my area that I had no interest in that vanish in a few hours, then come up a week later as "RARE 60-1 ARCADE L@@K!!" and its always the same guy. Hell I even bought my Space Invaders off of him before he had a chance to multicade it

>>2135195
Radioshack is one of them, the only reason I can stand working there is because my manager is actually a decent person. Honestly that's the only thing stopping me from calling in tomorrow and going for it

If any Rochester bros want it though, hop on craigslist. I'd much rather someone from here snag it than a fucker that would mame it

>> No.2135209

Does it actually work out any cheaper to just strip some legit cabinet and mame it as opposed to making your own?

Its definitely easier to have a premade cabinet with a base, coin slots, monitor and all that garbage then it is to make your own.

Which is all people give a shit about, is making something easier.

There are much easier kinds of cabinets to convert to multicade than a fucking Afterburner. It would certainly be a sin to junk that flight stick mechanism. Also they don't have a standard marquee

People are retarded. You just need a USB stick and a pretty average computer for a reasonable arcade setup.

>> No.2135242

>>2135217
Rule of thumb is that any cab whole is cheaper than the sum of all its parts. Which is why I hate finding stripped cabs and multicades, unless its a must have game you end up sinking more money into it than its worth

>>2135216
Radioshed was the only place that gave me a chance, you think after 4 years of service I'd at least have a bit more swing when it comes to scheduling

>> No.2135257

>>2135238
Well, there's reasonable and there's authentic. Real arcade monitors are really nice to run arcade games on. There are a lot of shitty 80s and early 90s JAMMA cabinets out there that it's no huge loss to convert, especially if it's done right with all the original hardware preserved. My project is a Bally Sente cabinet, which is a cool cabinet but runs some pretty shitty games. The biggest problem is I have to add eight more buttons. Fighting game cabs are the dirt easiest to convert because of having 6 buttons already and as much as I love my 90s fighting games there are a ton of Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and knockoff cabinets out there that would definitely have better lives as proper multicades.

Converting a cabinet like Afterburner would not only be extra difficult it would also never not look like an Afterburner. It might be a fun project to convert it and only include games that control with a flight yolk. Maybe tastefully add a throttle to improve game variety.

I like converted cabinets that retain their souls and as everyone who emulates probably knows already, having too much selection is bad. If the cabinet automatically booted into After Burner but you could also hold a button combination or press a hidden button and turn it into just G-Loc, Wing War, Thunder Blade and Space Harrier it would get played a lot more than just as After Burner and those are only personal favorites off the top of my head.

Correct me if I'm wrong,

Jap arcades seem to use these sort of "universal" cabinets. Did the west get stuck with "dedicated" cabinets which is why there's such an issue with taking cabinets apart?

>> No.2135470

>>2135451
Pretty much. The Sega "(whatever) City" cabinets and the seated position for playing didn't really make it across the Pacific. We had either dedicated cabinets or people just gutted old machines and installed JAMMA harnesses and plugged in the board.

>>2134220
Anon, get that Afterburner. Yes, >>2135049 G-LOC was the better technology, but no video game music on the face of the earth compares to Afterburner.

>>2135257
This guy gets it. If I had the space, I'd take an Afterburner sit-down (or go full Galaxy Force II), leave the original game in it, but have a second (switchable by physical connections while prototyping) emulator setup with a RasPi doing emulations and an Arduino telling the motors where/when to run depending on the position of the stick.

No disrespect >>2135049 what I'd really like to do is play Afterburner in an R360 cabinet

As awesome as that would be for everyone, it's just not feasible. I made an LCC computer repair business, but it barely pays more than minimum wage, not something anyone with any sort of ambition could live off of. And worse, there's only so many niche things people could do that for.

Also, someone's got to be a drone and man the factories that produce the shit ton of consumer goods we go through. Such as life that some poor anons will get stuck working at those places.

>> No.2135984

>physical connections
Easier to just auto-boot into the cabinet's game BUT there's no MAME plugin that communicates with those hydraulics in that type of cab SO
>Arduino telling the motors where/when to run
If this is something you have the skill to do you should make it compatible with MAME. You'd be a hero to a lot of people, get a lot of old cabs rocking again. Maybe hurt some people too! Metal!
>Afterburner in an R360 cabinet
That's basically what G-LOC is, minus the soundtrack I guess but have a gander at this item off my grail list.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meYx9RuCAQY

My grail list is ridiculous. I'd trade a Panzer Dragoon Saga AND an Earthbound for one.
