Anyone lucky enough to play this as a kid?

Wouldn't say lucky but yeah, played it when it came out. Why? Unfortunately just had the base game and the base game sucks, it only got playable with the expansions.

Yes, but I don't remember fuck all other than the crazy weapons and that you had to hit the fat inbred drunkard with your melee weapon to finish the level.

And that a lot of the enemies included the animals. Mosquitos the size of a car tire flying in your fucking face.

heh i do believe it was about 5 dollars actually.
I still had dial-up then so tfw no warez :(

neat weapons such as shotguns and aks but horrible level design and glitchy as all hell.
still a better game than nam.

Bought this as a bootleg in Turkey back then.

enjoyed it to some extend....but then I also enjoyed that Vietnam shooter based on the Build Engine.

oh god, this was such a piece even then. I have this old next generation issue with an ad for it and even that was utter shit. so yeah, your usage of "lucky" is controversial at best, man

I played some multiplayer when I was visiting a friend's house, that was a blast.

I'm not sure if it was the original or rides again though.

The first RR is pretty average. It has tons of good (and some even great) things, but also tons of issues : glitches, some very poor levels, issues with keys (they're slow and it's hard to tell which keys open whats), overpowered titty bitches, etc

The addon, Route 66, is very well designed because it tries as much as it can to hide all those flaws and it works pretty well.

The sequel now, Rides Again In Arkansas, is an underrated masterpiece imo. It fixes most of the flaws of the original game. It has some of the best level design I've seen in Build and in 2.5D FPS in general (that fantastic factory level...), new enemies and weapons and the driveable motorbike and swamp vehicule are amazing.
Most people stopped at the first game and it's a shame. Most don't even know the sequel exists, tons of people even think it's an addon (which is like saying Doom 2 or Megaman 3 are addons)

I would hate accidentially killing bubba because you couldn't go to the next level if you did. Also typing elvis to go yehaaw and heal 5 hp was broken.

Route 66, the dam level... at the beginning you see Bubba and a Sherif going up an elevator except it's like really far away from you. For the longest time I thought they were enemies, I mean, the Sherif obviously is, except you can't kill him at this point... so every time I'd keep shooting and shooting as soon as I'd see them in the distance, not realizing it was Bubba and thinking the game was glitched because it made me restarted the level over... I had totally forgotten you could kill Bubba

does this work while dead? When I was a kid, I blew up the gas station while my brother and dad were watching. Got mad, smacked the keyboard and somehow revived with a small amount of hp and I think I was drunk. Wondered how it happened to this day

>> No.2126461

No, the sourcecode was never shared. Some people did try (or are still trying?) but with no luck.

There is a recreation of the games made by some Russians in EDuke32, they call it a sourceport, but it's not; all the AI was redone from scratch and everything is off by a thousand miles, unfinished and buggy. (even worse than BloodCM; dunno what's up with Russians and their love for shitty recreations, maybe it's because they were raised in a world of bootleg...). Don't bother.

The games play perfectly in DOSbox though, at high resolutions even. You can get the GOG version if you're lazy to set it up yourself.
