That's a glitch I've never understood. Somehow, the bodies are actually going above the roof and getting lodged in there--a complete physical impossibility, considering there's absolutely nothing above the roof and nothing to render, and yet somehow they're getting stuck there.
I've been banging at the code, but I'm still trying to fix it.

I don't really think so. If done subtley enough (that example's really bad, I'm talking only when making fast turns where the gaps between frames are big), it can have a nice interpolation effect. It can look quite smooth even at 60fps.

But of course, like bloom lighting, it should be subtle to add to the scene without overpowering it. But also like bloom lighting, people go full tard when they get their hands on it.

>Killing sergeants don't exactly kill them. Helper marines still attack their gibs or what's left of them. They don't count as kills unless I gib their corpses to tiny pieces

Dodging is key to high ranks in Demonsteele. You can sorta chain attacks with dodging, so you can run at enemies, roll through their shots, and immediately start combo'ing their asses. It also helps if, when fighting at melee range, to keep your current target between you and the other enemies. Not only does it help keep more projectiles from hitting you, but it also adds more damage the more enemies behind them; which I know is basic Doom knowledge, but it really, really helps in Demonsteele.

Besides dodging, remember that you can cut through any projectile, and since almost every enemy attacks with projectiles, you can either cut through them or dodge through them. Fuck the timing though, just spam the attack button to cut through the attacks.

Since you can't help rank decay, the best way to keep that fat rank up is to be offensively defensive. Also, it helps to know which ranged weapons give ranking since any AoE weapon (like the RL or Omen) don't give any ranking; however, the special moves do, so if you can, try to use them to clear crowds over using the ranged weapons. Leave them ranged weapons for when you can't reach your target/can't approach them.

Other than that, it's all about gittin' gud and getting the blind sentinel to watch your back so you don't have to worry about getting blat blat in the back while you're slicin'n'dicin'.

Dodge like crazy and don't be afraid to use weapons (like in a medium sized room, every time you think you can get to the guy and slice him in time, he shoots you right in your face while a shotgun blast would take care of it). The key of having high meter is avoiding damage, so in general its better to take even a group of enemies with weapons than risking your combo meter.

When fighting Barons use sheath to stun them. Protip: to kill a Cyberdemon quickly, use two charge slashes (up + up) with at least Champion rank. Best weapon against Archviles is Exodus (grenade laucher) since it kills those fucking flames. For Darkened (Pain Elemental replacement), use any combo move except down+down.

It also depends on how densely packed they are.

Guns are kind of useful(SMG, grenade launcher. Pistol and shotgun are pointless) but don't give much rank. And the grenade launcher gives none.

Also you don't even have to worry about rank loss if you're getting hit because you can build up rank very easily during your invincibility phase provided there is enemies.

It's damage is a tad too low to really excel at taking out anything that you'd really need to snipe.
It's best use is to hit switches.
Besides, the grenade launcher is much better for long range bombardment since the things you want to deal with immediately at a distance is going to be Archviles mostly.
Quite literally everything else you want to be close/mid range so you can use the SMG(Ghosts) or to use your sword.

If you have a D rank your sword will be way way better AND you build more rank to get more damage and swing faster than you can shoot. Also soul gain.
Not to mention the grenade launcher has AoE and defensive purposes.

The problem with the shotgun is that it's damage is static while the sword ramps up, making the shotgun have little use as you build rank.
The shotgun is not bad statistically, but because the sword functions at basically the same range it has to compete with quite possibly the best melee weapon in Doom mods right now.

Also you can dash in making the sword have a surprisingly high effective range.

Maybe pointless is too harsh of a word for the shotgun.

Thanks. I ended up breaking down and using the Agony Elemental's sprites, they work better than the sprites the mod maker used.

It either fires a single, rather damaging ball of fire, or 2-3, 3-ball waves of "Skull" fireballs.

It also spawns Lost elemental-type enemies named "Karkass", and can either spawn versions that will aggressively charge at you or strife about, avoid melee range and pelt you with fireballs.

These enemies (Named Granfalloons, a living cancer, or so the lore proclaims) have 3,500 hp, and when they die, they spawn a nova of those large fireballs and 3 of each type of Karkass enemies.

Also I've made the Fire-ball type of enemies strafe based on A_Jump chance and they're not as translucent (compared to the screenshot) Oh and before you think all this is a bit much, these are to replace the Spider mastermind.

Am I remembering this wrong but in the original Doom did a Diskette icon appear in the lower right corner of the screen when something was loading into memory? I've had a similar idea, been playing about with some assets and graphics with a .wad basically built on top of another .wad (because I started when I was a noob, and just kept building and building from there), basically it would be a gameplay mod styled after Doom as it is, except kind of fancy, using some of the old alpha and beta rifles and junk. I don't have the drive, ambition, or skill to finish it myself though (and it's a bunch of junk piled on top of other junk in a mess of an archive).

I do like the idea of being maybe not that powerful, or that monsters and enemies are way more dangerous and require more thinking than regular Doom monsters. So if you were to make your own mod after you're done, would you go for full on realism, a lot of realism, some realism, a bit of realism, little realism, or no realism at all?

Switch/key hunting isnt a puzzle.
No, not even when it says 1/3 of the puzzle was completed when you press it.

The puzzles that Hexen actually has :
- Elevator bullshit in the guardian of steel, where you have to figure out that each switch opens one path and blocks another. This one could be considered nonsensical since no other switch behaves this way and you have to guess what the fuck its doing, even more than usual.
- Two stances where you can get yourself hit with a porkalator egg and crawl under a wall. Neither are necessary in the first place.
- Matching signs on two tombs and wyvern lair. Solving by trial and error takes less than 10 seconds. This is particularly funny in Zedek's tomb where a new combination is generated in each game, but you are not allowed to try to turn the symbols before you hit the switch that shows you the correct combination.

Everything else is pure hidden object hunt.

More engines to play on mean a wider audience, and it's generally more convenient for the user to not need to whip out something specific. I've done some crazy things with DECORATE and can work my way around a lot of weapons, props, items, and enemies. ACS is still a big hurdle for me, though.

I meant the flame cannons. Sure thery're fun to use in a small room filled with soldiers and just opening the door and alt-firing them is fun, though it's really one of the weapons I use for a specific moment and just completely forget about them. They're pretty underwhelming in my opinion.

Same thing with the revenant seeker pod, I used it once on a crowd of imps and former zombies, and watching them fly and getting hit by rockets in mid-air had me laughing for a good couple of minutes.

Yeah, chrono seems a bit too possessive of it on the Zdoom forums. To be honest, I've always viewed the constant permission wars in the Doom community to be such a waste of time. Maybe it's because I play a lot of STALKER where Russians modders just steal everything from one another, but I think the Doom community needs to be a bit more open when it comes to sharing mod stuff. I've seen too many good mods shut down because someone had a bitchfit over "Those are my gloves" or "That's my upper half of the candelbra, shut it down." It's crazy. I've been modding for about a year. granted, i've only been playing doom "seriously" for that amount of time too.
most of what I do is decorate or otherwise relies on zdoom specific lumps.
I haven't made any major use of dynamic lights, so I don't really focus on gzdoom specific stuff.
as for zandro, I don't mod hard enough to even get near the differences between zdoom and zandro.
99.99999% of what I do is basic decorate editing of already extant mods for personal use. for instance, let's say somemod.wad has decorate weapons that I think are shit -- well, I'll kill them, and try to make the mod compatible with [insert favourite gameplay mod].
I've made free-standing mods before, but at most, they're weapon sets. my most recent is a simple mod that circularises vanilla weapon spread and replaces the PUNGxx, PISGxx and CHGGxx series of sprites with their alpha equivalents.
tl;Dr I don't mod "hard", but I constantly have Slade open when I play to make minor tweaks here and there...almost nothing I play is 100% as downloaded anymore.

Being banned from the various Doom forums is a bigger punishment than it seems at first, because while you can always use a proxy to get at new resources, you can't request any specific resources be made through the forums and it cuts you off from the majority of the player audience.

You could still post it on /vr/ and facebook (and other social sites) but it will be more work to get the mod or map noticed, likely less people total will end up knowing about it, and you'll have to do a Doom Retro level of spamming it to get it noticed.

Never occurred to me before. I only had problem with gibs stucking everywhere and prevent elevators or scripted platforms from moving.
But I assume it had to be Shotgun Guy since they're bugged already from the beginning. Helper marines even attack their gibs because they ain't seen as dead (when you check the monster count it gives it away) unless you hack them to tiny pieces. Imps and Zombieman screams seem to work fine.

make a big room, fill it with a random mix of zombies, sergeants, and imps. allow them all to kill each other. i did this with about 800 monsters, and set them on fire with the mancubus gun. this should show up quite a lot of bugs. for example you can get a half-burnt crawling zombie that bursts into flame if you shoot it.

Is that map worth improving? Your FDA is too good (compared to my abysmal skill) so it looks like any average player will beat it with no problem. Also I don't know how sound affects gameplay here (as I can't play w sound right now).
