I don't know, but maybe the fact that it's a retro game has something to do with it.

What made it feel so retro at the time of it's release though? I've never played any other game like it besides Elemental Gimmick Gear which did not have the same retro feel.

Retro at the time of it's release would have been the first and second gen, it didn't feel like an Atari 2600 game to me.

Ok then, let's answer this. What the hell does retro mean to you? Then we can determine whether your opinion is retarded, your definition of retro is retarded, or if you actually have a point.

I dont know why OP

it was a great game that reminded of the zeldas of old. After the shit that was seasons and ages, it was nice for them to release a new zelda title on the gba that reminded me of the older games. Nintendo got back to their roots!

I think the word you're looking to was nostalgic, not retro.

Maybe it's because it returns to the gameplay of Zelda 1, instead of Zelda 2, or something completely new. Maybe the "lone hero takes on the forces of evil with only his wits and sword" was a classic trope even then. It might even be that it has the word "past" in the title, primes your mind to think about nostalgic things.

I personally don't think it feels very "retro" for its time. It was pretty advanced for being released less than a year into the console's lifespan.

Anyways, many people liked it, but I didn't care for it personally, I'd rather they just made another zelda in that style, as opposed to rehashing ALTTP.

>Michael Brown

Why shouldn't we excuse the cop for defending a himself against a wanted criminal going for his gun again? Because he was white and the criminal wasn't? Michael Brown had just earlier that night assaulted and robbed a convenience store owner, disobeyed an officer's commands, and forcibly attacked him intending to disarm him and he was shot in the process, this is pretty cut and dried.

But that Eric Gardener case, fuck that guy, he should be in prison.

>> No.2116827

This should outright be in /pol/, especially considering the satirical reference to Ferguson ( Clarissa anyone? ), but I heard that Obama is encouraging public school districts to hold events honoring Michael Brown. I don't care where you stand on this issue, that's outright innaproriate.

Are there any games the really play with the layered map designs to the extent that Link to the past did?

I can't think of any birds eye view games before Link to the past where you could jump off ledges and into pits that would actually lead you to areas directly below you.
Shit like dropping through the floor to get the moon pearl, jumping off the cliff at just the right spot to land on the secret door, the layered mazes in the Swamp palace and thieves den.

What are some games that did this before Zelda?

Answering my own question. I'm a dummy.

Dragon Quest 1's final dungeon had you climbing up and down stairs through an elaborate maze, and all the staircases were consistently lined up with each other so knowing where you were in relation to the floors above and below you was crucial to navigating it.

They also did something like this in Dragon quest II with the tower lighthouse thing
