What are some more old school PC RPG's like this, /vr/? I've been playing Wizardry 7-8 and Daggerfall, along with Icewind Dale 2. Anyone know of anymore GOOD games like these classics?

Ultima 7

I haven't ever played a game that combined a compelling story, fun dungeons with strategic encounters, and sheer length the way BG 2 did. It is just a special game. And it is really bizarre coming from a developer who has never made any other games that are a quarter as good as it.

Really? I've been playing through, but I haven't beaten it. I've just been wanting to play a lot more games like this. I also downloaded Neverwinter Knights 1 and 2 with all their DLCs. I've just had a hankering for more dungeon crawler RPGs with the complex character creation systems that are at least a little fun.

>> No.2113360

Technically speaking, BG2 isn't /vr/.
Icewind Dale 2 even less so.

Also, BG1 is way more fun than BG2.
Also also, Might and Magic 6.

Oh fuck. Really? I'm sorry. I had seen a thread the other day with some guys talking about it, but they were also talking about OLD old games like Wizardry from the early 80's. My bad.
I have BG2 in this 4-disc set that I enjoy. I've never played BG1, but ill totally download it right now. Sorry again if this doesn't belong here.

It isn't the only good RPG out there. And it isn't the first or last good RPG I've played. But the consistent quality in such a huge game is something else. I used to replay it yearly, but it'd been about 5 years since I played it recently and it was a treat. So many build options, so many party options, it never gets old how many ways you can approach the combat. I even discovered some new exploits.

But, if you want more games, I never get tired of shilling for Shattered Lands.

Play Wizardry 1 to see what old school and classic really means.

Planescape Torment, obviously. Also you could try Might&Magic series, especially 6-8.

Do I really need to mention Fallout too?

might and magic 6-8.

not really that complex, but fun as hell

>> No.2114090

there are none.
if shadows of amn was your first experience with RPGs you can as well stop looking because shadows of amn is so good all other video RPGs pale in comparison. This is how I feel bg2 was my first video cRPG I tried other classical RPGs and I just don't find them half as interesting as bg2 was .
try tabletop pen&paper RPGs my friend

I'm not even talking about "nowadays", though. Neverwinter Nights is a joke compared to BG 2, and that was the next game they released.

If you liked Wiz 7, try Might and Magic X and Lords of Xulima. They're both conceptually similar and both good (though M&MX is much harder any other M&M or Wiz 7).

they kinda redeemed themselves with KotOR (tho it's writing pales in comparison with the sequel), and i actually enjoyed first Mass Effect and Dragon age. Too bad both series went to homoertoic clusterfuck right after that, even Jade Empire is better than that shit.

you've heard of planescape right?

It's not so bad. Hordes of Underdark especially is really good.

it's was really great for modding community, the game itself sucked fucking hard tho. Also, i prefer BG's dnd rules over NWN, call me a pleb

Neverwinter Nights it's not a game but more like a game editor including a shitty demo.

>I prefer unwieldy and easily-broken mechanics to a unified system of clear rules

I liked AD&D while it was still relevant but given how 3rd edition made wizards actually viable it gets the nod.

You're aware that 3e is a broken system from the ground up, right? And casters are more than viable. They are broken.

Go back to >>>/tg/ with these hot le caster edition memes. This is the place to be elitist hipsters about video games, not tabletop games.

Sorry about this, I will now go another 8 months without being a douche.

Can someone explain appeal of 3rd ed to me? Serious question, i love 2nd ed games but everything from IWD 2 up bores me to hell.
