Those two were pretty much testruns, she hadn't worked with something like that before and paint markers and the like can be pretty runny on a surface like the DMG's shell. I thought she'd done well given the circumstances, and I had a few people people interested in buying both, so whatever, man.

What you're looking for is a Tri-Wing Screwdriver.
You can usually find one on eBay for a buck or two.

If it's something like an SP or a DS/3DS, it helps to sand it with something lower-grit to rough it up so that the paint has something to better stick to, but with the original gameboy's texture it doesn't really make that much of a difference.

Changing buttons like the one on the right in >>2111740 or >>2111636 would be as far as I'd go. For the rest, it looks like you're using gameboys as grafitti surface.

If it were me, I'd play with colors on the original thing, or go for themed stuff related to gameboy games.

I like to keep my own personal Game Boys pretty simple and they're are all mostly how you described. Change of buttons, backlight, and not much else.
Pic related.
Also I'm actually planning on taking a trip over winter break for a few weeks to hang out with another friend who does this sort of stuff and we're planning on putting together a bunch of Nintendo series-themed systems.
Otherwise nearly everything I do is custom commissioned, so it's all whatever the customer wants.

I'd avoid art almost entirely, or bring it to the back. For example, an all-pink case with a Kirby face on the back, and maybe keep the star on the front over the d-pad.

There just isn't enough space to accommodate a lot of little details without it becoming overwhelming. The original design of the Game Boy is to put the focus on the screen, not distract from it by putting something where the hand rests.

Yoooooooooo hold up. Troll or not, this has to be addressed because there are people out there who legitimately believe that stuff like this is the highest-quality shit and it's sad.
I'm not even gonna argue with you about what you think of any of the previously posted stuff. I will admit I am not the best (I like to think that I'm slowly improving, though) but you're gonna come in here and call fuckin' 8bitevolution's stuff "professional"? lolol
1. Aside from the occasional stenciled stuff, a large portion of their designs aren't much different from the kind of stuff seen in >>2111740
2. They don't seem to bother to take their systems apart and clean them before they paint them, resulting in crappy edges, and shit like that grimey controller.
3. Dat clearcoat. Not sure what they're using, I suspect enamel (or maybe even acrylic?) clearcoat, but anyway, that super-glossy look is great, but after it's been handled it wrinkles up BAD (you can already kinda see it on the red bit on the right). If you're not gonna bother with some higher-quality professional auto gloss, don't bother at all. Go get a $4 can of Rustoleum Laquer-Clear and call it a day.

Srsly, you could've at least posted some of 8bitaesthetics or RoseColoredGaming's stuff.

CGBs can't actually be backlit, you have to either gut an earlier-model SP for its frontlight, or find a frontlight kit online somewhere. I believe Kitsch-Bent.com still sells them.
I strongly suggest looking into buying/applying some Loca to their kit, though. Otherwise it can end up looking washed-out like pic related.
