Hey /vr/o's, /v/'s too busy talking about SJW's instead of video games, I'm trying get something for myself for this holiday, thinking about getting a Zelda handheld game, there were only this two, which one should I get?

Link's Awakening is the better game, in my opinion.

I can only afford one sadly, Link's Awakening is 17$ and Oracle of ages is 27$

Link's Awakening is the correct choice regardless of price

Oracle of Ages (as well as Seasons) have some pretty unique puzzles and a surprsingly big amount of content given the hardware they used.

LA is kinda the prototype. Not as complex. But it's REALLY charming and damn well executed.
In fact, it was so charming that it's the only that made me tear up a little at the end.

Also

Ballad of the Windfish > Hymn of Zelda

I have to side with the majority here, awakening by a long shot.

While ages and seasons (you really should just play both, seasons being my favorite of the two) provides some interesting puzzle solving and occasionally interesting boss fights (e.g. the puzzly one in ages where you have to shift blocks around), overall it seems a bit more hodge podge

Awakening, no question.

If it was Seasons instead of Ages, a case could be made for it. But Ages, while having vastly superior bosses, has inferior everything else. Sure, the dungeons are more difficult, but difficulty alone doesn't mean better - LA's dungeons, while admittedly too easy, have a theme to them, have a charm on their own that the Oracles failed to capture.

Season comes far closer to LA as far as overall charm is concerned and has superior bosses to boot. I still prefer LA over it, but only by the tiniest of margins. Ages? Not even looking back.

>> No.2110839

Ages is really puzzle heavy, but not in the way that's like "FUCK YEAH, PUZZLES!" because a lot of them just have you pushing a colored block around or stepping on all tiles to change their colors. It's still a really fun game.

Link's Awakening is more of a balance of everything that makes Zelda great. Get the DX version if you can for an extra (easy) dungeon that lets you change your tunic to either red or blue with each one having a different effect.

Link's Awakening is the better choice by far. It is one of the very best Zelda games. Honestly, while Ages and Seasons are fair entries in the series, they really don't stand out like Awakening.

It IS kinda a dick move that the windfish is like ''S'LATES BRAH'' and flies off leaving him shipwrecked at sea. But how vast a distance could he be travelling? I read a theory yonks ago that the game is set in another zelda game during a raft trip which I always kinda liked.

You shouldn't play the Oracle games unless you have access to both of them. They're part of a set and playing them together makes them infinity better. So with that in mind, get Link's Awakening.

Characters
Dungeon design allowing multiple paths and large skips
Fantastic Overworld with shittons of secrets

Opinions inbound, but:

1. The music is pretty good. The Tal Tal Heights music playing as you climb the mountains between Eagle's Tower and Turtle Rock enhances the final few areas so much.
2. The items were well rounded and were useful in a variety of places, not just their own dungeon.
3. The dungeons were creative and exploring the island to find them felt like sightseeing.
4. The island itself made a great setting. Exploring a strange, isolated island in the middle of nowhere is one of those things I really enjoy in video games, and Koholint is a magical place.
5. It's just fucking fun.

Honestly I think both Oracle games are better than LA, but I would get LA first. Oracles have a bit more polish (though LA has a ton of charm and I'd even go so far as to say Koholint are better than both Holodrum and Labrynna combined in terms of setting), so start off with LA where you can fully enjoy the game and everything it does right while not being spoiled by the mechanical improvements made by the Oracles (like not getting a textbox every time you brush against a boulder).

I think that has to do with so many of the sprites and scenery being lifted straight from Link's Awakening. Incorporating more color would probably involve a lot of redesigning.

I think the use of color is subtle but effective. Every season has a unique color scheme in OoS, same with past/present in OoA.

>> No.2114952

Both games are the correct choice because both games are equally good. Seasons is as well.

>> No.2115204

A thing I loved about seasons, is how little bullshit the game pulls.

the overworld sections are mainly composed of straight exploration, with some dungeon transitions having no quests.

Playing it just after skyward swords was refreshing.

Ballad of the wind fish

That Final Boss
