So, /vr/others, I'm 30 years old today.

Let's celebrate our age by posting when we got our first gaming console/computer.

I remember the 1989 Mario Christmas commercial, I begged my dad at the fresh age of 5 to buy the NES. I received the NES Action Pak if I remember correctly with the SMB/Duck Cunt combo with a zapper and a copy of Mega Man 2.

As a child I was most blown away that I could pause a game and not lose quarters.

DAWWW :-')

you privileged douchebag.

My first console was a N64 i recieved on Christmas, but I had played videogames before on the NES and SNES of my neighbor.

My first games where Star Wars Shadows of the Empire, and Yoshi Story.

speed forward 2003-2004 I had my first PC

It was an Intel Pentium 4 at 1.7 Ghz, the first game I downloaded (using an AOL CD lol) was Doom Shareware edition.

And the first game I pirated was Doom of course.

Today I'm well past 25.

I never got a console because my mom is a militant tech hater apart from her beloved TV. The only exception was my uncle's used brick Game Boy when my parents caved in on my christmas wish so I could play Pokemon Blue. Other than that and visiting friends I grew up exclusively on the PC, and even then I wasn't allowed my own PC - only access to the family computer - until age 16 when I bought one from my own savings. At least the first games I remember playing were all great titles. Prince of Persia, Commander Keen and Day of the Tentacle, and my dad bought a joystick just so we could better play TFX.

I'm 20. My family had a SNES probably before I was born, because I don't remember my Dad ever bringing it home. We only had a couple of games -- Donkey Kong Country and Primal Rage. The latter would scare me, so I never really played it.

The first console I do remember receiving was a Playstation 1. That had to be in Christmas of '98. My sister and I got up at 5 in the morning and it was still dark outside, but the lights were on when we rushed down the stairs to see what we got. The Playstation was sitting underneath the glow of the TV screen, just waiting to be played. It was fucking surreal. We played Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon all morning as we ate Nestle chocolate eggs and other stocking goodies.

Welcome to your thirties. If you haven't got them already this is when you get kids and it all goes downhill from there. I'm sorry to be break the news.

My first computer was an 8-bit Atari XE. And yes I was jealous of C64 graphics but I am possibly the only person who thinks POKEY sounds nicer (obvious bias, I know, but I do like it more). I have virtually no childhood memories but I remember obscure 80s games. This explain why I went into gamedev when I grew older and why I'm here despite "getting too old for this shit".

I turned 30 a couple months ago.
I discovered the NES when passing in front of a video game shop in a mall, a guy was playing SMB. I remember he was going up a "magic bean" as I called them. And I found that fantastic.

My parents offered us the NES for the nexwt Christmas with TMNT (it was sold with it, I don't know if it had been the case in other countries, Frenchfag here) and SMB. Our American cousin offered us Tetris. These were my first 3 games and as I hoped, I enjoyed SMB. Playing it with my brother is among my best memories. And SMB is still my favorite game to this date.

My first contact with video games was when I was around 3 or 4, with a Coleco Vision, from my aunt.
She'd lent it to us and my dad and I would stay overnight playing pac-man, DK, Galaga.
I also clearly remember playing Smurf: Rescue at gargamel's castle and Cabbage Patch Kids a lot.
There was a Superman game, some casino mini-games one, and a couple others.

But my actual first console was a grey Famiclone, exactly like the one in this pic.
It came with a 30 in 1 multicart full of classics and SMB3. This must have been 1990 or 91.
Rocked it all throughout my early childhood until 1993 when I got a SNES and later a Megadrive.

Would have had my grandmother's Atari too, but that got burnt in a house fire after my mom sold it but before grandmom could get it back. She gave me a bunch of Atari instruction manuals, though, which are pretty cool in their own right.

26 years old Anon here.
My first console was the good old Commodore 64, first game I remember playing was an old Popeye game, I was lucky my uncle was a turbonerd and had a stash of old games and consoles from his age.
Later I got a megadrive but didn't really live the best of the snes' years as it was not a big thing in certain parts of Europe, that didn't stop me from enjoying it later though.
I also remember that as a kid I used to play a lot with my pc, Wolfenstein, Commander Keen and Jazz Jackrabbit were my greatest pleasure back then...
I can't enjoy pc gaming anymore though, but I guess that's because I'm a bit jaded now.

I feel like things have moved too fast, pc gaming has lost most of its magic to me, though it's true that it has also a lot of good things like a vast community of modders, consoles still have something that keeps me going though I'm mostly playing on handhelds these years.

I wonder whether I'm kinda falling out of gaming with the passing of time or I just have more bias or both.

Born in 87, poor family in brazil, but my older cousins had a brazilian version of atari with tons of games in the memory.

92 - Their mother buy a brand new Phantom System, brazilian clone of a Nes. Ghostbusters came with it...I can't tell you guys how i thought the car segments were awesome to my 5 year old self...

97 - my dad, that never lived with us and only visited us twice a year, bought me a Super Nintendo. Shit...I almost crapped my pants.

Mom was too cheap to ever buy me any games, had to make deals with friends to have more games...in the process i became a keen and ruthless negotiator, collecting almost 22 games, without ever having to buy none of them...only exchanging among friends.

2006 - got a internship as a law student. buy my ps2 hidden from my mother. Shit was indeed cash with god of war 2 and grant turismo 4.

2009 - mom finally buys me some video game. a faggot wii...mario kart was awesome though.

2010 - the same internship buys me a ps3 with my last payment. graduate from law school, and can't find a job. But resident evil 5 drown my sorrows.

2013 - I am now a lawyer. Somewhat decent job. Buy a super nintendo from a dude, and spend a whole week high on nostalgia.

2014 - n64, playstation 1, dreamcast, mega drive, master system and a new sit on my shelf...now That i have money i try to satisfy my old dream of having ever video game from my cild hood.

>phantom system eludes me...

hold me vr, i will never find a working phantom system in box with a functioning gun and with a black collored ghostbuster cartridges...

>you finally stop being a idiot, and learn how to deal with your own shit and take care of yourself - that means you get to do anything you want, but it never bites you on your ass because you were too much of a retard to not do things with moderation.
>I really mean it: you are smarter. more experienced. girls will worship you and your wise and rich dick.
>generally men become more atractive between 30-40, while women become rancid after 27. that means you get to fuck impressionable and young fuckwits who are amazed at how nice you car are and how mature you are in a conversation.
>you are finally a man. you don't need to lie, you get your shit done, you are good at your job, people need you, and they respect you because you a useful human. paying bills isn't that hard in the internet age.

The only way life sucks after 30 is if you are an idiot and screwed up your education or made pretty terrible career choices. OR, if you fucked some bitch you don't care about and now have to pay for that...

Man, I never meant to be agressive or sound like a douche. But c'mon, if you are not a kid you will know that I am not just bragging or acting tough on the internet...if you got a job during your 20's, then by your thirties you just HAVE to be good at it, or else you are an Idiot...I am sorry, I do not mean that as an offense, but it's just true man...if you spend sometime doing something, then you should eventually be good at it.

If you can do something that other people can't - or rather won't - congrats, you are usefull to society and people will treat you accordingly.

So, like I said, only after the 30's you start to become acknowledged in whatever it is that you do for a living, so things become better. you get your financial stability, you learn how to deal with pressure in your work enviroment, you understand how society trully works - like, grey areas everywhere - you stop seing yourself as a special snowflake and your mind become clearer and more focused. I am not saying this based only in myself, but in all my friends, families, and, frankly, anybody ever. It should apply to you too.

>women in their 20s now call you "old" and want nothing to do with you

>drive around in a fucking Honda New Civic.
>have a cousin that helps me buy decent clothes. nothing too expensive.
>Am not an assburger idiot, and can assert myself in conversation and have learned how to comunicate with people in my profession.

fuck 20's is not even worth bragging...girls at this age are fucking morons only concerned with status position.. (at least the pretty ones). I guarantee to you, sex is secondary for them.

My autism's radar can tell as well.

Old school 2D drawings were more utilitarian... When they look all Artsy Fartsy it's because it's done by a hipster art student making "pixel art".

Even the greatest sprites didn't get all wacky, even Nanatsu Kaze no Shima Monogatari on Sega Saturn, probably the best looking 2D retro game on a home console didn't go that apeshit.

I'm turning 30 in two months.

I remember begging my parents for a NES because a friend of my mother's daughter had a NES with Mario 3 on it and I liked it so much I couldn't stop playing when we were visiting.

I got the same as OP with the SMB and Duck Hunt with the Frank Zapper. I still have it and they still work to this day.

Your post was fine until you implied that you can control your genetics. I agree that you shouldn't let these things hold you back, but these two items have literally nothing to do with the other factors in that last sentence.

How's that feel?

28 in a couple months, good to know I'm not the oldest person here...

First game machine was a computer. Don't remember what kind. I was possibly three, and my father let me play Adventure on it. I remember that vividly because a spider laid an egg in the keyboard, and it hatched while I was playing it. That was pleasant. After that was a brick gameboy an exchange student let me have when I was six. I had lots of friends who had all sorts of game systems, though. So I played all of them growing up.

It was a bad expression. english is only second language. what I meant to is: to complain about how shitty your life is ain't nothing more than a waste of time. If you are bald and not a whiny faggot you will figure out a way to still be happy.

35 here, I remember that my very first home gaming came from my oldest brother's Commodore64, game was the not bad Panther.

I was six when I got my Sega Genesis model 2 (I played games on my Father's computer when I went to visit him on the weekends prior), my parents made certain to stress to me that they squandered their last dime on it, so I had to be sure to play it often and enjoy it

I also got a birthday cake with Sonic on it, though it always irked me that my mother didn't have enough room for Sonic's trademark sneakers

This is true. I started balding around 25 (29 now), but anyway I kept my head shaved since I was 20, so literally, being bald is just natural to me, way more hygienic and comfy, too.
And more often than you think, girls will actually love bald guys. It kind of stands out, you know? If you are attractive, you can use a shaved head to your advantage, I've had many girls come talk to me, using my "nice baldy head" as an excuse.

however, I agree with >>2088726
you do sound like an aggressive douchebag.

I was very fortune to be born the son of a gamer. Some of my earliest memories are sitting on my father's lap and playing King's Quest and other early Sierra On-Line DOS adventure games.

My first console was an N64 + Super Mario 64 for Christmas 1998. The rest is history.

To be really honest, if people like>>2088726
find me an agressive douchebag, I kinda take that as a compliment.

The fact that I know about the stuff I described shouldn't mean I have no respect and consideration for others (which should be the definition of a douchebag). It just means that I don't believe I am entitled to anything, and I HAVE TO be useful to others so THEY will respect me as a functioning member of society.

If you can do that, you will have money and to financial stability to not depend on your folks and be able to do as you please.

I also said that the longer you live, the more experienced you will be, which means you are more effective in what you do. Ergo, people will value you more, and your job will pay you more and etc...that's just how it works.

The agressive part, well...I really am. People need to be that...at least a little bit in crutial times...I am a lawyer, if I do not expose my side of the story with force and conviction, the technical stuff will sometimes not be enough, and that's fucking frustrating.

Ask youself if you want the lawyer that represents you in a messy divorce to be an agressive douchebag or a gutless beta - both having the same techinical proficiency in law.
