Hey, remember when we used to have these?

In this thread, let's appreciate and play retro fighting games. People of all experience levels welcome, of course.

If you aren't too experienced with emulating arcade fighting games, check out ggpo.net for a matchmaking client, and http://fightanvidya.com/games for the games you'll need. (mamehub also works I hear but I haven't used it personally)

what is the best 3D retro fighter that's not Tekken 3 or any Virtua Fighter

I haven't played many 3D fighters, but Bloody Roar is pretty good. I also liked Samurai Shodown 64, though I think it probably isn't objectively that good. Rival Schools for Dreamcast was fun.

There's also the obvious ones like Soul Calibur or Dead or Alive.

Whats your problem with street ex plus alpha? I was a blast of fun, had great soundtrack (one of the capcom's finest) and somewhat decent graphics for 1997 standards. Granted, it had much less depth than the 2d ones, but it was really fun to play.

There's a certain retro charm of EX1's blocky polygon models. Though I prefer EX2's character roster and combat features, EX1 remains my favorite from a graphical perspective.

Also Vulcano Rosso best EX character, Skullomania need not apply.

1) SFEX is not a 3D fighting game, its a 2D fighting game with 3D graphics, exactly like SF4.
2) The games have just about as much depth as other SF games.

while the aesthetics may attract casuals, I find the gameplay rather deep.
Probably my favorite fighting series since they give the player on the back foot so many choices.
Thank god they made the volleyball series to weed out people playing it for the wrong reasons.

>COD strawman

Lovely reading comprehension going on here. By this same argument, only games with the worst sales figures are good. See, I can pull false inferences out my ass, too.

I never said sales are the only indicator of quality, but they are one of them. Given how fickle and critical the community is, and how every casual tekken fan hasn't played past 3, having the impressive sales figures they do is probably the only objective, quantifiable piece of evidence to support its quality.

>>2086104
Touched a nerve, clearly. I'm sorry you personally dislike Tekken but it remains a highly popular choice amongst a cadre of extremely finnicky assholes. Again, an indicator of quality (but not the only one).

Go back to school and learn to present points instead of insults.
