Can we get a Darkstalkers thread?

I have an odd relationship with this game in that I am intrigued with it, but I don't own it.

Back in the 90's Tips and Tricks Magazine did an article on it and detailed gamepltay and character stories. I thought it looked so cool.

Then there was a Burger King I used to go to whenever I could and play the arcade machine. Yet, I never bought it for console. One of life's oddities where it just never happened.

So I was wandering where it sort of falls on the history of games.

>Is it considered good from a gameplay standpoint?
Yes. The two sequels are very good.
>Is the PS3 reboot worth owning?
It isn't a reboot,it is just a port of the arcade versions of the second and third games. It adds online gameplay over ggpo and some other neat. Buy it and hope for Darkstalkers 4.

Maybe if its owning company wasn't Capcom...

Instead you'll get Morrigan and Felicia's tits in every cross-over game

Too much to really distill into a short post, they're as different as Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Alpha 3. But in general, while Night Warriors is still a quite aggressive game compared to a typical Street Fighter title, it does have a good deal of emphasis on more traditional, defensive elements like pokes, projectiles and anti-airs. Whereas Darkstalkers 3 leans farther toward the offensive and rushdown side of things. They're both good games in their own right and both worth playing. This year alone both of them have had their own tournament in Japan with over 100 entrants.

Their fighting game coverage was the tits.

Really enjoyed the stuff they did for the VS. series and SFIII. Would've loved to have seen DS-related shenanigans.

The sheer attention to detail in these games, and the fact that so much of it ended up being cut or changed for different releases made this a real interesting read.

>Donovan's spriteset contains an unused animation of his sword Dhylec becoming a surfboard. According to a developer interview in "All About Vampire Hunter", they floated the idea of having Donovan surf when confronted with Rikuo's Sea Rage (an EX move which launches a tidal wave at the opponent).

I forget exactly how many Vampire Hunter boards TKO has, but I think it's over a dozen. He lends some of them out to arcades. Guy loves that game to death, it's thanks in large part to his promotion of it that it has seen an upswing in tournament activity this year.
