Anyone here own a Turbografx? I've decided to expand my retro gaming inventory to more than the usual Atari, Sega, and Nintendo. I keep on seeing retro Youtubers coo over it and it has a cult following.

Anyone up for a thread about it?

I have 2 pc engine duos. Its the 16-bit shmup machine to have

Ys is the reason to buy it

I like the turbografx, but I will say the only reason I have one is because I found it for a good price.

I have a CoreGrafx II and a PC Engine Duo with a CD drive doesn't work and needs recapping and I'd like to get a Super CD-ROM 2. Getting ready to buy some capacitors from Mouser to fix the Duo.

But it's 8-bit anon.

pretty expensive to get into for the price. I think i'll build an arcade machine before getting into pce unless I find a duo for cheap.

What are some good games to look into for the TG16/PCE?

Hot-Tip, OP:
As somebody who just started collecting in the past year for both PC Engine and TG 16, I'd say skip the U.S. version and just collect Japanese. It'll save you a lot of money in the long run and there's a larger library.

just get a flashcart and some blank cds if you actually like to play games and not post pics of plastic+pcb collections on an ancient Himalayan stone tablet exchange website.

I'm pretty well off, partly because I don't waste my money on amassing useless collections to substitute the complete lack of fulfillment in my life. I'm sure your parents and grandchildren will be forever proud of your bountiful collection

You need to understand that, for your children and grandchildren your beloved collection of games will be garbage a waste of space, the destiny of all that is the trashcan.
No one will ever appreciate your old games as you do. For them their retro games will be xboxone and ps4

I bought one because my friends had them as a kid and I had a lot of nostalgia for it, I bought a PC engine just because I wanted one though.

The Xbone and PS4 will both be ancient history by the time I have children, let alone grandchildren.

I have no 8 bit systems and have been looking for a turbo or PC engine for awhile but the thing that keeps me from pulling the trigger is that the games are so fucking cost prohibitive.

I know there's a turbo flashcarts by krikz but does anyone know if it's as good as his mega drive and snes offerings? it seems risky to get such a valuable system that's prone to failure and stick a fucking flash cart in it because I can't afford any decent games.

but those shmups man

Grew up with an Express/a GT because it was just about the only game console I could bring with me with we moved from one country to the next (as we often did back then). Since it used batteries and batteries are generally universal country to country, it was fine.

I grabbed two off jewbay for 50 bucks. Both "broken, as is". Two AC adapters, one RF switch and one controller as well. Not a bad price.. if i could get them working.

Cleaning, Recapped and nothing. I was going crazy... turns out the only game I had, Keith Courage, was bad. Bought the cheapest game on ebay, another Keith Courage, and they both are working 100%

I A/V modded the one I'm keeping with s-video, it looks great. I used pic related, for those interested. Very easy mod..
I'm probably going to hold off until I mod the other one (and sell to you bros in B/S/T) to put towards a TurboED.

I'm really interested in some of the games, especially bomberman94 and all dem schmups.

>> No.2064249

It's an expensive console to collect for. Every game costs like $40 minimum

Ninja Spirits and Blazing Lazers.

i have to say those are two awesome games so the systems rad imo. just wish there was a cheap way around region locking

Can someone explain why it failed to compete with Sega and Nintendo? Never been able to play with one but the japanese version looks sexy as fuck and as long as I know the games are pretty good, so I was just wondering. Only bad marketing and bad distribution or there is something else? I'm european and never knew it existed back in the days.

I think the efforts to bring it to other countries were half-assed because they were comfortable with where their success in Japan. Sega had to find a place to make money abroad because Mega Drive didn't sell in Japan.

I have a stack of PCEs but no TG. The CD in is really a must have for either.

>>2063790 Also:
Blazing Lasers
Super Star Soldiers
Paranoia
Keith Courage
Splaterhouse

>>2064121
The only things prone to failure are a few easy to fix parts in the CD and portable systems. Also PCE aren't expensive.

>> No.2065108

Friend of mine found one in her basement with no games and gave it to me. I found someone selling Bonk, Bonk 2, and Splatterhouse on Craigslist. Popped in Bonk and couldn't stop playing until I beat it. One of the most fun have games I've ever played.

Final Match Tennis is the best tennis game ever, and it is a realistic tennis game.
It is very niche, like a videogame more for tennis fans than for videogame fans.
If you are interested google the trick to unlock the difficulties, after mastering the game you only play in the hardest one.
