Anyone know any good retro /vr/ related manga of anime? I loved the ones that used to be in nintendo power. It seems a lot of retro games had original manga produced to go with it. I know Strider and Megaman had manga I need to download.

Here are some zelda ones.

It was the other way around. The game is based on the manga(which debuted around 1979). Also yeah, it's good.

The Ocarina of Time manga is alright. Street Fighter 2 the Animated Movie is also pretty good.

Mega Man has the Wish Upon a Star OVA, which is rather bland, and the cartoon (A FIGHTING ROBOT! MEGA MAN!) which is just utter garbage. Worth it for the cheese factor if you're watching with friends or something.

I guess a lot of retro games were also based on anime that came out first. Im not sure about Zillion but I know the gun in the anime is based on the Sega light Phaser. I think the games came out after that.

The Zillion anime technically aired before the release of the JP Master System Zillion game, but they were developed together as a sort of cross-promotion.

The Megaman cartoon and anime are terrible. The old school Shigeto Ikehara Rockman manga have great, adorable artwork but are pretty lackluster in content.

In fact, almost every game manga is awful. I mean, consider that most licensed games are terrible, so it is with licensed manga and anime.

ishinomori was a prolific artist with years of industry experience under his belt when they hired him to do the zelda comic. cyborg 009 was written in the 60's and it ran for a couple of decades. his work was the basis for kamen rider, so he influenced the highly successful super sentai genre in a big way.

shigeru miyamoto and the other big names at nintendo and other japanese game development studios and electronics companies were children in the 60's and 70's. they grew up reading ishinomori's work. why the fuck are you surprised they knew about him? read a fucking book

I don't like his new art nearly as much as the old art. Maybe it's because I really like Toriyama but I don't generally care for this decade's style of anime to start with. Especially the coloring. I don't know if it's because he does it digitally now but all the colors look flat and lifeless.

And I can't stand the fact that Red in FR/LG looks awful and they've retconned that design to be the standard in any other game he shows up in these days.

I love and prefer watercolor as much as the next person but I also believe digital has its own potential. Only few digital artists know how to make use out of such potential, and I'm very well aware Ken isn't one of them(though his early digital art I'd admit was decent imo).

Are you sure you're not mistaking Sugimori for the new main artist, Yusuke Ohmura?
https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts?utf8=%E2%9C%93&tags=yusuke_ohmura+
I thought there was something funny going on with the character designs for the more recent Pokemon games, and it turns out Sugimori isn't nearly as involved as he used to be. His shading has definitely not gone flat in any case.
