My personal favorite resident evil. I love the pre-rendered backgrounds.
I really wish there was some way to get high quality pre-rendered backgrounds from PS1 games. I know there was a pack for FFIX somewhere but that's about it. I would love to see the same for the ones for Parasite eve, Especially 2.

I feel like Nemesis was the last actual Resident Evil game and everything since then has become a TPS action horror. I love the bullet crafting mechanic but I feel like they should have allowed you to play and tinker a bit more with that stuff and the choose your own adventure aspect of encounters with the nemesis were interesting but could have been much better, still, great game and Vickers got his.

>>2062402
CV was a huge letdown, on every aspect, but especially on the environments. Everything looked empty and bland, compared to all the details 2 and 3 had. Not to mention that using true 3D environments had no "pros" in CV, only cons, because the 3D moving camera angles were not interesting one bit and didn't add anything (unlike for instance Dino Crisis which has wonderful cameras making great use of the 3D possbilities)

I like Code Veronica. Maybe even unreasonably so.

But I can still see what's wrong with the game. It's not really scary and is just outright scary in some areas. Oh, and it went full retard a few times in regards to story and tone.

I like it more than 3, but at least 3 was scary. Hell, ironically 4 was scarier than CV, and the tone ended up better because it didn't take itself as seriously. It's like RE4 knew what it was trying to do and CV didn't. CV tried to take itself seriously and ended up looking goofy as shit because of it.

Just to reiterate, I do like the game. It's charming, the gameplay is sound and it is the most "B movie" of all the RE games.

RE3 is a textbook survival* horror game. RE4 ain't got shit on it, and it's not even my favorite RE.

I just love how challenging it is, you can replay it every year and still get rekt by Nemesis couple of times here and there.

RE2 is my favorite, and I think RE1 got the spooky factor better, but I have to agree that RE3 is overall the most compact and rich RE game.

>dat responsive as fuck control scheme
>dodging that takes time to master, timing is more important than in Dark Souls
>that knee shot that is so satisfying once you actually manage to pull it through
>replay value, all the random small details and choices (like the black USBC dude, whether he dies in one way or another)
>weapon variety
>satisfying gunplay
>eerie atmosphere, again, small details (lights going out as you progress)
>enemy variety

The only two games that can rival it in those random little details factor are Dino Crisis 1 and RE1.

Can't believe it's been 15 years, one of my favorite games ever. There is something absolutely magical about RE2/3 art style of prerendered backgrounds.

RE3 focused more on the militaristic themes and less on the immensity of places (symphonics, if that's the word, and piano.) Also, RE3 hadn't a center piece like the Police Station, all of your stays are transient.

It had its moments but again, could be underappreciated for the game's pace.

She does a gasp and at that exact moment, she looks like Molly Ringwald who's incapable of being attractive. She's back to being hot for the rest of the game, thankfully.

It is obviously mainly based on RE3 but you can see some influence of the other games too, like sheryl and the girl in the movie, the CV scene where claire runs across some windows under heavy fire, and even some comments like "machines are so unreliable, like people" which reference some files in the 1st RE.

Doesn't Brad turn into a zombie, found underneath the police station?

I mean, RE2 and RE3 happens at the same time for a brief moment. (When Jill is in the city and when Leon/Claire are in the station)

I recently started playing the remake and I keep getting my shit shoved in because I can't get into controls and I suck shit with the aim. I don't remember having this much trouble with RE2. I just bought RE3. Will I have the same issue with controls and aim?

I don't know what you're trying to prove here. Molly could still get it.

Yes, Brad is a zombie.

And REmake is probably one of the more difficult beginnings of RE games. It will get easier as you actually get more weapons and shit.

Jill's inventory is 33% bigger, she doesn't need old keys(which takes inventory space), she can play the piano(Chris needs Rebecca), she can mix the chemicals to kill the plant and maybe other stuff I forgot about.

TL;DR playing with Chris is just harder.

Only Jill can have the grenade launcher, she doesn't need the broken shotgun to have the shotgun and she gets the assault shotgun earlier.

No, that would be Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil 3 was an ACTUAL main entry and actually moved the plot forward. You just didn't get RECV on the PS1, so you're butthurt. Period.

Actually, if you look pay attention you'll notice that Claire in CV and Regina in DC have almost the exact same running animation (dat butt wiggle), and the way the camera moves in both titles is very similar as well.

I have always assumed that DC is more or less just fudged together using the engine from the original version of RE3 (witch later became RECV and moved to the Dreamcast). Like, rather than re-use that exact engine for the game called RE3, they started from scratch, but still used the original engine (or what they had of it) to make another game entirely.

I've also always felt that DC2 was made from an early build of Onimusha's engine, since the movement "feels" the same and there's a similar pace and weapon upgrading and all that. But this is all conjecture, of course.

Actually, I agree with you to a large degree.

I mean, there WAS RECV/X, REmake and RE0 afterwards (not to mention several side games), but one of those felt the same, really.

>CV/X had FAR clunkier gameplay and the 3D environments and camera moves changed the atmosphere to a large extent. Not to mention that the gameplay element(s) carried over from the PS1 games felt like they were stuffed into an otherwise finished game
>REmake was more of a haunted house simulator, and really lacked that classic RE atmosphere. I do however consider it to be a better game than any of the other classics, but it still doesn't feel like an RE to me in many ways.
>RE0had most of the same issues as REmake, but add to that the re-used puzzle ideas, and the lack of actual tension (due to you always having backup RIGHT THERE) and the total lack of difficulty.

RE1, RE2 and RE3 really are the core of the classic series, while everything else is more or less a series of experiments that hit and missed individually.

True that RE3 tried new things too, but the new ideas in RE3 WORKED. And the game also maintained the feel of the first two entries, while presenting it's own personality at the same time. The sign of a great sequel.

So? the PC versions of 2 and 3 are the bests versions.
They're also the only versions in which you can skip doors (when like me you've played each RE game more than 100 times, it's a major plus) and which supports mods. While RE3's mods are mostly just skin mods (due to how hard it is to mod it), RE2 do have some really cool mods which change gameplay a lot.

And if your problem is that you think "PC=Keyboard", I use a PS1 or PS2 pad.

The problem with the PC versions is that the higher resolution means that the character models stick out like a sore thumb against the low res backgrounds and it looks terrible. Playing the console versions on a CRT helps mask this problem. Besides, there's always going to be compatibility issues on newer computers. I remember playing RE3 not too long ago and there was an issue where the backgrounds had some weird lined patterns all over.

The Dreamcast/PC versions are similar in that they have 2 exclusive costumes (which are nothing special btw) and the unlockable costumes and Mercenaries game unlocked from the start, which ruins the reward aspect.

The PC version has skippable door loading I believe.

The DC version has health status and ammo count displayed on the VMU, which is pretty helpful and cool.

The GameCube version is like the PS version in that it lacks the 2 extra costumes of the DC/PC versions and you have to unlock the unlockable stuff. However, the GameCube version has the best looking character models, skippable cutscenes, and 60 fps FMVs.
