Still waiting for the remake of Timeshock... I knew they wouldn't make it in time for the original release date (December 2013) but at this point it's looking pretty bad.

The IRL machine being made was pretty exciting news, though. I doubt I'l be ever able to play it without travelling abroad, but as long as the Pro Pinball name will gain more fame it's fine with me.

Is it just me or does VP feel kind of wonky? I got a couple of tables to test out, but was mostly aiming for F-14 Tomcat. If I'm not mistaken, it's an FP table because the first time I loaded it up, it was displaying horizontally instead of vertically. I had to go into the table properties and rotate it 90 degrees then slant and slew it so it would display properly. I don't feel like this is the proper VP experience. Having to manually resize and place the separated DMD window is a pain and I hate having to load up the editor before I can run a particular table. I'm talking mostly out of my ass here, seeing as how I haven't had a taste of more than a few particular tables, but that's why I'm looking for someone to correct me.

In short, I ask the thread this: what's your favorite VP table?

From the era you list, there's not much of a difference when someone says Bally / Williams / Midway, it was all the same company.

You should try other machines from the same software and playfield designers. Attack from Mars is one of those Brian Eddy playfields (he still works for Williams making baller gambling machines/games) and he was good with software too like when he did Shadow PF+software. But the dev and him also made Medieval Madness together and Lyman's name rings out. Then you've got Lyman doing the rules on Gomez's Monster Bash and you start to see that same Bally/Williams quality.

Lyman programmed Tommy back at Data East before coming over. I think it's pretty much agreed that Stern = Data East > Sega even though they're all the same manufacturing concern. It's always been about Bill of Materials for Gary and Joe Kamincow.

No Steve Ritchie games? He's still doing playfields with Lyman Sheats backup on the software, cranking out big hits like AC/DC and Star Trek.

Something like Scared Stiff you'd have to rely on the playfield designer, the software there is by Ed Boon's brother but also the same guy who did Circus Voltaire's rules/software, Cameron Silver. So there's another link to trace down. Dennis Nordman is most famous for White Water, universally agreed to be a top machine from Williams.

It's all about how well the table is designed. If you want to play with sideways monitor you download a table designed for that, hopefully a recent optimized one with custom ball physics. Like check out the Terminator 2 table that's the most popular ever, that's some serious pinball simulation.

jpsalas makes good horizontal and vertical tables, he's done the work for you. His physics are tight. He made an F-14 table that's good horizontal, but the angle is pretty shallow. His are designed to have the view height and angle adjusted, but not to flip horizontal/vertical. Download the vertical version instead for that.

They only made Theatre of Magic because Capcom pinball had stolen Python from them and Joe Kamincow was dumpster diving over at Williams. Williams joined in the industrial espionage and found out about Pinball Magic and had to shut down this new upstart pinball company.

That game you see there, Pinball Circus, would have been 100000x the game that Theatre of Magic and Voltaire were. Pinball Magic would have been 10x the game that Theatre of Magic was because of Bryan Hanson, expert magician and pinball designer. Why not so good? Because Capcom had Williams' dick in its ass. Don't fluff Williams in the afterlife and penetrate Capcom further, they would have been awesome. Python will live forever.

Here's a story about /vr/ and pinball and the internet:

Been posting in pinball threads on /vr/ since its inception. People talking about nudging one time, bring up Josh Sharpe and his aggressive and skillful use of such. Point out that essentially everything in the machine that the ball can touch, or with rubber, can become a flipper through proper nudging. Point /vr/ to Josh Sharpe's play on Congo during the world champs, and his lifting and full 90 degree hurl of the machine with no penalty due to knowing the way its specific tilt software functions.

Skip ahead 1 year. Watching PAPA's live weekly broadcast. Female commentator claims that "Josh Sharpe's move on Congo has become something of an internet phenomenon in some corners of the internet" and claims that Josh Sharpe is going around saying anything in the machine can be a flipper with proper nudging.

Orbitor's big gimmick was that it's an uneven table. It's a curved plexiglass, and those little round "bumpers" in the middle are actually rapidly spinning wheels. The balls don't travel straight but instead tend to move in curved arcs.

It is both sparse and dimly lit (which actually makes for great atmosphere since its motif is a lunar or other kind of barren planetoid landscape) which made me walk past it a bunch of time, but once I actually tried it I was really intrigued by it. It's probably not a table for everyone, but its unconventional nature (and the fact that I had only ever seen one of them in my life) really endeared it to me.

Judge Dredd FS MOD DX9 BETA BETA2

This BETA release of Judge Dredd is based on Lord Hiryus unfinished version of the table. A lot of components have also been taken from bmiki75's version. So this is a combination of those 2 versions with a lot more added on top. Anyway the main thanks should go to these 2 guys for the original builds and letting me release this MOD.

I'm calling t this still BETA for now as I don't have time to test / work on it for few coming weeks. And since I thought that a lot of you might want to try this over the weekend.... so here it is :)

New features:
New flasher effects
New flasher based 8-step GI (with adjustable PF luminosity)
New lighting
Lot of graphical tweaks (alpha ramps, textures etc.)
BMPR lite physics and overall physics adjustments
Flipper tap code
Lot of sounds added
New captive ball scripting
etc. etc.

Big thanks to JP for his awesome new flashers scripts. Really really nice stuff!\

Dredd Dude here,

Played teppotee's recreation, and I gotta say it's the most accurate translation of the table I've played. Though you can't trap the ball on the upper right flipper on the real table, even with the grippy red flipper rubber I have installed. Hell, hitting the Sniper Tower from that flipper is a rare feat for me. That, and I think most Dredds are set up to throw the ball straight into the left outlane if you miss the mini-loop. I know mine does, but I think it just adds to the challenge.

At least VP still lets you enjoy those based call-outs. YOUR DRIVING DAYS ARE OVER, PUNK!
