Can we talk about R-Type?

This is probably one of my favorite game series; despite having never beaten one, but that is something I'm trying to change.

In my opinion the TG-16 port of the original R-Type is very close to being the perfect game. So elegantly simple. There isn't any options. As far as I know, no cheats. The only content offered occurs purely in game, and that content is some of the most pure and viscerally difficult, yet ultimately incredibly satisfying gameplay I've ever experienced.

So, /vr/ do you like R-Type?

>>2055810

I like R-Type Leo, R-Type Final and R-Type Tactics, although I wish Tactics wasn't so fucking slow.

That being said, I think the lore and setting/atmosphere are infinitely better than the game itself. Kinda like the opposite of Gradius, which is an awesome game with the most boring setting ever.

I must admit I haven't played too many others in the series besides the first and R-Type III. I had Final in high school, but someone stole my PS2 and all the games before I could play it.

Like I said though I love the first one. It will be great when I'm good enough to see past more than a few levels.

>> No.2055823

R-Type Delta is fucking amazing and if you don't like this game, you're not a true fan of the series IMO. If you haven't tried it yet, DO IT! I had it put off for a while myself and felt like a fool when I finally got into it.

I'm getting close to a 1cc and this game still remains so much fun despite already being so familiar to me by now that I can easily see myself going through it again and again after I'm done.

The games very clearly have a huge hard-on for the Alien films, and Giger-esque monsters. The story is even similar, although on a much more massive scale, and with some time travel thrown in.

Old polygon 2D shooters had some charm and they made some crazy shit taking advantage of 3D. That and gameplay-wise make R-Type Delta my 2nd favorite of the series (III being the first). Finally a good thread on this shit board here!

I absolutely love R-Type. It's my favorite game series, even though I only recently started to play them.
I'd say R-Type Final, of course, is the best R-Type, however I also can understand people who have R-Type III or whatever as their favorites.

It's a shame the series is gone... What would I give for an R-Type in 3d ala Star Citizen... All the possibilities... It would be the ultimate game!

/jp/fag here. MADs are basically music video mash-ups on Nico where you take the song from one thing and the footage from something else (or make your own animation) to make a music video. They're crazy popular in Japan.

Secondly, the "headless girl things" are indeed from Touhou. They're called Yukkuris though. Basically, it's a sentient race of bean paste mocchis that resemble the girls from Touhou. That's why it's called Y-Type instead of R-Type; for Yukkuri-Type.
