Hey there, /vr/.

Lately I've been playing Hourai Gakuen no Bouken, aka Adventures in Hourai High. I gotta say, I've been having such a blast with the game so far. I love the contemporary setting, how you gain skills by joining clubs around the school. and the soundtracks is pure 16 bit heaven. I never see it get talked about around here, though. Why is that? Is the game that unknown, or is there just some level of shittiness that I've yet to encounter as of yet?

Your thoughts on the game? Any discussion welcome about what I feel might be a true hidden gem for the SNES/Super Famicom.

The translation came out super recently, so probably just no one has played it yet.

This and it's not like the moon reading anons raved about it before.

Still one day I'm going to try it too just because it looks great.

It came out 3, maybe 4 years ago.

We actually had a huge thread about it when the translation dropped much like our current Lagrange Point thread or the ones we had for Chaos Seed and Ys V but I'm all for having another one for people a little late to the party.

I actually didn't play this one yet so let's hear all about your experience with it. I may very well since I ended up kind of confused and dismayed by Chaos Seed and this seems more traditional.

Okay I guess the big thread we had about it wasn't when it dropped then.

>Lagrange Point

Is that shit any good? I find most NES RPGs to be pretty tedious and "dated", hard to get into personally.

As for Hourai High, it's a lot of fun and has some really crazy enemy designs. My only real problem with the game is it can feel like it has an obnoxiously high encounter rate at times.

kinda sucks how once you find the occult club and mix it with the science club or something you pretty much roflstomp everything with screen wiping deathtechs, the challenge is really inconsistent and there are so many random battles

Spoonfeed the patch or the ROM, please. Most 4chan anons can't even use the catalog or the archive correctly, so...

Hourai High is one of the best snes rpgs ever, second only to earthbound. Both examples prove that rpgs don't necessarily need to have a medieaval setting, as most rpgs do.

I have never had finished the game, though, because all roms I have tried with the same savegame were corrupt and froze at a certain point of the game - i think it always ended when encountering the third 'boss'.

>Does anybody know a site, where I could download a non-corrupt rom of Hourai High?

Most anons should be familiar with romhacking.net, though.

Well, yeah there's a distinct difference in 8-bit and 16-bit RPGs that really is more to do with available assets than anything else. Good 8-bit era RPGs tend to really focus on mechanics to give a "deep" experience, and can cause slower going/grinding that some players might find tedious but personally I generally enjoy more than the dialog-heavy and "gee whiz" graphics of 16-bit era RPGs. Speaking of which...

Yeah... I'm starting to doubt I'd like this game.

Also

So close.
