Considering on picking up one of these fuckers. I think I'd be fun. Any of you /vr/o's have experience with em?

>> No.2051445

I hear the best thing to do when you're considering buying something is to make a thread on it on 4chan so more people know about it and the price gets hiked up so you have to pay 50$ - 100$ more.

unless you're a collector it's really not worth it.

just get an edn8 and you can play all the FDS games on any nes/famicom if you're in it for the games
like we all should be

>> No.2051467

>>2051460
Thats how it works dude.
It's not being paranoid.

>1000 people see an awesome toy they want
>at least 20 of them will try to buy it

There's not enough for sale at any given moment (for realistic prices) to be advertising them all over.

I bet it doesn't. What stakes are we playing?

Dem hardwired controllers, is there any famicoms that had ports originally?
I ofc know that this is a 99% likely no, but some weird people here know some weird shit, always worth asking

Wasnt there a top-loader with sfmc looking controllers?
Or is that a clone or something?

>> No.2051885

Well the Famicom does have an expansikn port thing. I believe some 3rd party d-pads were made that connected through this port. Probably not what you meant, but there you go.

>>2051445
Valid point. But this is a common Japanese only thing so there are plenty of available for <$20 in Japan. These remain safe because 4chan is full of weebs who can't read Japanese or buy anywhere that's not ebay. If OP is one of those faggots then he deserves to pay.

>> No.2052256

No just any Famicom that has controller ports. Just looked up that top-loader looking thing, but the controllers are a bit of-putting. Really like the original FMC controller-design, I suppose there arent any official FMC-looking controllers to purchase

>> No.2052260

>>2051889
Yeah they're cheap in japan Im sure. but If an american wants to buy it they usually have to pay 200$ on ebay. And thats the low price.

They get marked up to fuck.

>> No.2052467

>>2052256
Not sure about original Nintendo controller but there were officially licensed famicom controllers and you should be able to use those with the 4 player adapter on an AV.

>>2052260
No one "has" to pay $200 on ebay. They choose to for whatever reasons they may have.

if you connect a controller in there it will work as second controller e.g. if you broke your first controller you're fucked pretty much. no easy ways of replacing it, but dealing with soldering and such. famiclones like on the picture were quite wide spread in the 90s in post soviet russia and ex-ussr countries, so we had a lot of experience with dealing with this issue and lots of bitter memories.

>>2051860
it looks just like the second version of the nes which you had in the states and europe. don't know why would you want to pay crazy cash for postage to just receive a pretty conventional and boring looking console but with just a different cartridge slot. you might buy a pretty similar thing in a pawn shop for like 10 bucks in your own country. a famicom to nes converter seems to be a more reasonable investment if you fancy for the famicom games.

This is why I have not made a thread about the thing I'm looking into right now. I made a casual post about it six months ago and it has turned into pasta now and prices have increased about 2x over. I ain't saying no more shit til I actually get one in my hands.

But the temptation is so great...

Twin Famicoms aren't exactly rare in Japan, but you're not going to get a working one for less than twenty dollars.

>> No.2053549

I have one. The native A/V output looks pretty good.

What this guy says, the FDS is very unreliable and you dont want to be shelling out for disks and pulling your hair out when you have trouble getting them to load, but if you do buy one make sure its listed as 100% working as most of them have broken FDS drives, the belts disintegrate on them ,swapping the belt is easy but calibrating it to work perfectly is seemingly impossible they do use the exact same FDS unit as the normal nintendo ones though if you wanted to swap them out.

the good thing about the twin famicom is it has AV outs ,the AV famicom has av outs obviusly but its ugly as hell.

The most annoying thing about the famicom though is that the controller cord is about 2ft long its ridiculous,i made a super long controller cord for mine

>just get an edn8 and you can play all the FDS games on any nes/famicom if you're in it for the game

You won't get the expansion audio unless you use a Twin Famicom or Famicom + FDS.

Only place you're going to find one is in a shop or flea market in Japan. If there was a secret website people could order things at this price from their basement it wouldn't be a secret.

>>2053503
I've seen them for less and the only reason I didn't buy is because I already have three sets of the original. How much more than my CIB set would you expect a twin to be?

>> No.2055852

even though its AV out it is still not as good of a picture ad an NES or AV famicom. look in to it, its neat having a 2 in 1 system but if you want better sound and video go with a AV famicom with a FDS

Hi guys, I'm new to this board. I've been wanting to collect older games for a while, and I picked up a Famicom game this weekend at a con (Megami Tensei). Is there a Retron system other than 5 I can buy that'll play Famicom games? 5 is expensive as fuck.

>> No.2056948

Cheapest option would probably just be to get an FC-to-NES cartridge adapter and play it on an NES. NES systems are available all over the place for super cheap and the adapter is cheap.

I actually own a Twin Famicom. This same exact model. Picked it at a Vintage Stock for 60 bucks. Plays well and opens you up to famicom and Famicom disks. Only issue, you cannot remove the controllers, as they are wired into the board.

It's a beauty.

Retro gaming is less of a hobby than my other ones is what I meant by that.

College is of course my top priority, I go to maybe three cons a year, two of them super local. I just got back from one which is why I'm short on cash temporarily.
