One controller port?? Are you fucking kidding me. Even the 2600 had two. I had considered adding this to the collection, but the game are dull and get boring quickly.

The PC-Engine is meant for Hardcore japanese games, if those aren't you thing then you're playing the wrong console.

NEC made the PC Engine notoriously cheap and add on heavy. If you do not like platformers and shmups, it probably isn't your system since most Turbo Graphx stuff held its value and more.

There's no excuse for not including at least half a dozen ports on something that size. The PCE on the other hand didn't have a lot of space but 2 would have been nice. It might have even encouraged developers to add 2 player coop in more games.

There are no Mario 3D platformers or pokemon games for it yeah, lot of people can't really into it.

Leather jackets are actually amazing if you do it right.

But I know the kind of guy you're talking about. Freddy Fedora and his bomber jacket thinking he's hardcore.

Get a Pc Engine Duo-R or Duo-RX (not the normal Duo).
I also recommend getting a TurboEverdrive and of course a RGB mod! I wouldn't do a region mod,

What's a good price point for having it being modded compared to just a vanilla system? That alleviates having to buy the HuCard adapter, right?

The Duo-R(X) is definitely the best deal if you want to play HuCards and CD-Media. The ODD is much more reliable than the DUOs or the (Super) CD-ROM2.
For a cheap start, and if you only want to play HuCards, get a CoreGrafxII.
Do the RGB-mod yourself, it's pretty easy with micro's RGB-amp ( http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=4822.msg33842#msg33842 ).

True, all 7th generation consoles have 4 controller ports and even before consoles usually had 2 of them. TurboGrafx (and some crappy consoles) have 1 controller port. BTW you can get some kind of adapter for that and have 5 controller ports.

If you really think the PC-Engine has a boring library of games, you should probably not be on /v/. If the one controller port is enough to make you piss and moan like a pleb bitch, the same rules apply.

although i love the visual appeal of the standard tg16 i was a sucker for it too as now i am stuck in an expensive spiral to continue collecting. super system card can go for as much as $200, united states releases are almost always more expensive than pc engine versions and the cd drive rarely requires me to take the damn thing apart and put it back together and that somehow magically fixes it again despite nothing appearing off or loose inside the unit.

Funny thing about the PS2. When it came out and people complained about the lack of enough control ports, Sony's response was something along the lines that "it wasn't technically possible to include 4 controller ports, but a 4-player adapter will be released shortly".

I'm the polar opposite, one of my friends had the standard system with the cdrom attachment and the cdrom attachment was nothing but trouble. it also weighed a lot. while my duo was light, sleek and outside of the one regulator running hot, which I fixed by adding a heatsink, never gave me shit.

Doodz, the PCEngine was meant to be a budget system. That's why it only has one option for output (RF) and one controller port; because adding more ports would drive up the price. Besides, So Fucking What?
You get the Turbotap and you can play Bomberman and Dungeon Explorer with friends. Instant Win!
