The first one is very average, it has cool stuff but is also pretty glitchy and has design issues as well.

The 2nd one is fucking great. It fixed most of the issues of the first game, the level design is MUCH better (there is honestly some of the coolest stuff of any 2.5D FPS ever made, like for instance the factory level) and it has even more added coolness with the driveable vehicules.

The problem is nobody played the sequel. Everybody stopped at the first. Most people don't even know the sequel exist or think it's an addon.

>> No.2040682

>>2040557
You forgot shitty mapdesign.

>>2040245
Also the first game I've seen where you can dismember live enemies (shoot off arms/legs, while letting enemy live) - if you shot off monsters weapon arm, it'll try to melee you with its legs or bide you.

Also while the engine is 3D, the mapping in Chasm is much closer to Doom or Build - the level structure is flat and room-over-room was achieved with same gimmicks used in Build, and even that was used once or twice in the whole game.

Still it had much more interactivity on levels than Quake did at that time.

That depends on the difficulty setting. After the main game there are tons of wads (levels) and mods to keep you busy.

There was nearly 21 year of people constantly making wads and mods for Doom - there are more decent levels for it than you can finish in several years, and when you finish those, more will come out already.

Just check out the Doom's thread

I'm not the guy you're talking to but you'll probably finish the first episode your first day or so, the rest, it's anyone's guess since the levels start getting a lot more complex.

Don't play it using whatever Steam comes with (which I think is DOSBox) instead grab Chocolate Doom (if you want a close to vanilla experience) or ZDoom/GZDoom. Just install the game via Steam and copy/paste the WADs over to wherever you extracted any of the ports listed above.
