I couldn't stand Shining Force II, though I loved the first one. Loved CD as well. Scenario 1 of three was decent, but on it's own it's just okay. Combine it with scenarios 2, 3 and the bonus disc and it's one of the greatest gaming experiences in existence.

Funny that.

They have been done for years now (seriously, I finished all scenarios in 2011).
The most recent translation patches are just grammar fixes, Compendium entries, and some small changes in Scenario 1's dialog.

There's a new patch version (16) coming early next month that polishes the text a little, so you might want to hold on until then.

I played SF2 first so I believe it to be the more enjoyable title, compared to SF1. I feel its just a better game overall (characters, story, level system, etc)

As far as 3. I think its good. I desperately need to play it again as when I did the first time I didn't get very far and eneded up selling the system and game (doh!)

Shining Force 2 is unquestionably the greatest game of all time. If they implemented the highest difficulty correctly the sheer amount of compressed greatness would have formed a singularity ending life as we know it so the government stepped in and made them screw up the hardest setting.

currently replaying SF1 for the 50 billionth time, i've always had a soft spot for it as it was the first game i completed as a kid.

I think objectively SF2 is a better game. Multiple promotions for some characters, secret weapons, a few areas that aren't strictly linear and the most important point - much improved A.I.

I love the feel and the characters within SF1 but the A.I. is so bad, there are 5-10 battles where the toughest enemies just stand still and let you smash them from range completely removing the challenge which is a huge shame.

I'd say both are better than final conflict and shining force CD, although they're great games in their own right as well.

forgot to add i do actually prefer SF1 myself, but i wouldn't argue that it's a 'better' game.

>> No.2050462

I heard the SF1 remake has a totally redesigned difficulty and gets harder the more you beat it. Is the AI better than the original or do they just get larger stats?

>> No.2051217

>>2050462

The ai for the most part makes better decisions. There were two real noticable things it did in SF1, those were having these "set piece" actions they would do to the exclusion of everything else even if they would die trying to do it and getting "leashed", once they attacked a character they only attacked that character unless max moved right next to them. They still try to do their preprogrammed actions but they will fight if interrupted and if they see oppertunities to make a more elaborate move to attack or kill weaker targets they will.

Can anyone explain to me the best strategy to train in the Fairy Woods?

I didn't particularly enjoy 2 but I still feel the need to finish it.

Ah, watching the opening FMV and the Saraband intro is filling me with nostalgia.

You going to play the other scenarios?

Yeah, but I don't want to burn myself out of SF3, so I'm going to play something else between scenarios.

Very good idea. I couldn't bring myself to play Scenario 2 for about 15 months, but now I'm really enjoying it.

there is a pond relatively close where you start the fight that spawns a high end gizmo looking guy, you basically wail on him, while avoiding everything else, once hes dead it will respawn every single turn so whoever is still alive can start over

If you just want to finish it why are you grinding?
There is absolutely no need unless you really want to use a specific low level character.

>> No.2053554

>>2053345
I like being decently powerful.

I did some grinding and it didn't take too much time at all, a couple of hours maybe. Glad I did it to be honest. Now it'll make it easier to finish it.

You can't use search in battle, so there's some chests you can't access in the english version.

Like that chest in the middle of the pond. Taunting me every time ...

>> No.2055005

>>2054827
Pretty sure it's only one chest in the entire game. It contains a ring that restores health each turn. Not even sure they left it in the English version since you couldn't search anyway.

SSF is the most stable Saturn emulator, it doesn't have any fancy graphical options though (yet).

The ISOs can be found easily enough with google.

Go to the shiningforcecentral.com forums for the translation patches. No ISO begging on there, though.

I played it recently and I could still remember the route to the Kaiser Krab without needing a map. Amazing how things stick with you.
