Amen brother, I have a story related to that.

>building my pc engine collection
>looking for cheap games
>kyukyoku tiger
>hmm yeah I know what this port of that generic 80s military theme taito helicopter shooter
>well it is toaplan
>buy
>game has typical military theme graphics doesn't look too exciting
>game throws everything it can at me while rocking my face off with the best music, and some awesome guns that fill the screen with bullets
>powerups fly towards the top of the screen and bounce around just to fuck with you
>i love this game holy shit I should have never doubted toaplan.

man when those powerups started flying up and avoiding me, it was too fun. Shmups really handed you them too easily back in the day kyukyoku tiger had such a fun risk vs reward system. You have to be careful too it doesn't change color before you can grab it. Some people might think that is artificial difficulty but I thought it was a ton of fun knowing they programmed it just to fuck with what you're used to.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI34R84U5sY

PC engine version has the best music by far imo. Also I find a lot of toaplans games to be better on consoles.

Twin Cobra right? it's a fucking shame that the genesis port wasn't ported by them, it could have been pretty much arcade perfect, but instead we got a piece of shit ported by a shovelware company.
But well, at least they ported stuff like Truxton, Fire Shark, Zero Wing etc and they were amazing ports, especially Snow Bros, it's a fucking awesome port.

9/10 times I die in Raiden 1/2 its because of whirling, color changing powerups.

But yeah, even the most boring Toaplan game (say, Zero Wing) has a 10/10 soundtrack or something keeping it interesting. And that's not even getting into the fact that Toaplan has some GREAT games. Dogyuun is GOAT. And Hellfire is awesome, even though its way too hard for me.

have you played the PC engine version? The Sega Genesis version is retarded hard cause it uses checkpoints instead. Still I love it too.

>>2024398
yah twin cobra, I regret passing it over all these years cause it looked so generic. I learned my lesson though. I also have Daisenpu/Twin Hawk and its pretty good I don't know how the mega drive version handles though.

for megadrive I have truxton, hellfire, fire shark, wardner (Ghost n Goblins with awesome level gimmicks), and V5/GrindStormer
Pc engine I have horror story/demon's world, hellfire, daisenpu, and kyukyoku tiger.

I really need to get mega drive zero wing

>> No.2024419

I haven't tried it on PCE. I have played it on MAME, though, and if anything, it is HARDER than my Genesis copy. There's no bombs and the lack of checkpoints means you respawn right into the action with no speed or weapons.

Is that game fun? it's a kinda rare genesis game so if it's good i'm gonna buy it.

Grind Stormer was ported by Tengen, sadly, they music is pretty lame and the colors could have been a bit better probably.

pc engine has no bombs either but I found it way easier than the genesis version even after dying I still managed to grind my way into level 5. I will have to try the arcade version some day, genesis version just has the best music sounds so good sped up actually.

>>2024439
I like it, it's like ghosts n goblins because the platforming is very precise and every level has a bunch of tricks you have to figure out, level 2 has these blades that move around you have to duck under them at the right time to get through. I had a ton of fun figuring it out you will like it if you're into arcade games like ghosts n goblins, and jigoku meguri/bonze adventure.

Infocom and Mag Scrolls were forces to be reckoned with. Infocom even did a half decent job pushing into multi media territory with the Return to Zork series and that spy game. Legend Entertainment is also another to look into, particularly their late 90s "Callahan's Crosstime Saloon".

No, Sparkster and Rocket Knight Adventures are 2 completely different games on the Genesis, and when you count the SNES Sparkster it's 3 completely different games.

No you are wrong, they are three completely diferent games, and in my opinion.

Rocket Knight Adventures (Genesis) >>>>>> Sparkster (SNES) > Sparkster (Genesis)
