The Earthworm Jim cartoon is absolutely hysterical. Dan Castellaneta did the voice of Jim and I legitimately feel it was his best role ever outside of Homer Simpson. It also featured other big-name voice talent like Jim Cummings, Andrea Martin, & Kath Soucie. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Also, Kirby Anime is pretty good with subs. May be a more recent anime, but it's mostly based on Kirby's Adventure. I think Bun and Fumu were even on the box of the GBA remake.

And there was also Double Dragon... very much not the video game, but it inspired a fighting game I think.

Battle Toads had a, like, three episode run too.

Dragon Ball Z was actually pretty decent, filled out the plot of the games quite a bit (but still fluffy even compared against other anime). If you're coming from the newer non-retro DBZ games it'll probably feel a bit skimpy though.

Speaking of eroge, there were a bunch that got an OVA or two like Amy's Fantasies and the Dragon Knight series.
The old Dragon Knight OVA is well worth a watch dubbed since it's basically on the same writing level as the DK3 translation, Knights of Xentar, with horrendous voice acting and genius dialogues like

That's how DK1 is. As you delve down the dungeon you encounter progressively less clothed girls. There's no sex as you'd expect from later eroge. The adaption isn't perfect but it gets the gist across.

There was little communication between the game companies and the artist/writers for the show. The artist would just be handed the game and makeup what he thought the character looked like based on playing the game for a bit. The whole thing was rushed too.

I wasn't talking about how off model or out of character things were. I was basically talking about the fact there was this massive video game character crossover on TV that featured characters from more than Just Nintendo, but Konami, Capcom, and many others as well.

It feels like that could never exist today, maybe one crossover game, but a TV series? never.
