2001619 No.2001619 [Reply] [Original]

What all games does Psycho Mantis react to? I know Silent Hill and Castlevania. What about the GC version?

>> No.2001628

Took less than half a minute to google.

The following game saves provoke responses:

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Policenauts (Japanese version only)
Azure Dreams
Suikoden
Snatcher (Japanese version only)
Tokimeki Memorial (Japanese version only)
Vandal Hearts

Well it's entirely non-canon and the gameplay is terribly unbalanced, the voice acting worse and the controls are ass.

>> No.2002406

>>2002392
The gameplay is actually improved and I actually didn't have any problem with the controls. The voice acting and cutscenes add some whimsy and even outright humor to the original which, in my opinion, took itself too seriously. I played both games around the same time, neither upon release, and when I was already in college, so I have no idea if that influenced my assessment of either game, though.

Gameplay is MGS2 controls in a system that wasn't balanced for it. There's no attacking fron FPS view in the original and you can snipe every enemy fron your starting position since the Genome Army doesn't have the visual range of the Gurlukovich army.

> cutscenes

Hahahaha, I bet you enjoy the works of Michael Bay.

>>2002481
It's non-canon because Kojima says it isn't, and it contradicts the PSX version in several respects as far as cutscenes and lore is concerned. Here's an example; how come Snake uses CQC in Twin Snakes when canonically he hated using Big Boss' fighting style? It is a similar story with a few glaring differences and it the PSX' account of the affair that has been taken as the accurate account. You'd know this if you did your research instead of greentexting a glib, but factually incorrect statement. Put on your big boy pants when you argue on /vr/, some of us know what we're talking about. Go visit the Metal Gear wiki, you can find all this stuff out in minutes.

Snake never uses CQC in TTS, moron. TTS predated MGS3 by a few months.

For the record, KojiPro counts TTS as a valid version of MGS1.

Why do you keep bringing up Michael Bay? You realize you're making a strawman argument, right? For starters, I'm not a fan of Michael Bay films. However, I don't expect to have the same experience when playing a game and watching a movie. The former is interactive while the later is meant as primarily a narrative experience. I don't even like cutscenes in games at all, but at least the cutscenes in Twin Snakes add some over-the-top flair to what is, otherwise, a laborious attempt at heavy-handed narrative.

Anyway, I don't mind at all if you disliked the cutscenes in Twin Snakes. More power to you. You probably disliked them for the same reason I enjoyed them. And that's fine. No reason to be a dick about it, though.

He's probably talking about the scene where Sniper Wolf catches snake. Snake does some crazy kung fu shit and takes out like three guys before Wolf stops him. It's not CQC though, it's just generic fighting move stuff.

The Twin Snakes made the game a little bit too easy, but I don't feel it was bad. And the over the top cutscenes are really funny and charming. The only thing I honestly dislike over everything else is the bad VA.

In regards to the OP, I wanna know what he says about Tokimemo and Snatcher.

I've already posted the video here. He only mentions Policenauts and Tokimemo specifically.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l1L49rrZe4

Mantis never actually mentions Snatcher by name (I'm guessing because the PS port wasn't handled by Kojima), but he still detects it. If Mantis detects both, Snatcher and Policenauts, he will say "so you like Hideo Kojima games" and Kojima's voice will come out of nowhere and say "thank you for your support."

It's not CQC, since CQC involved using a knife. CQC was mostly a gameplay mechanic than a story thing anyway. Snake still does the same basic "three punches and kick" in TTS.
