Also, the game makes a point to tell you THREE FUCKING TIMES. There are literally THREE SEPERATE MESSAGES in that battle that tell you what to do. It's repeated three fucking god damn times.

I actually saw how to do the command and everything, but I wasn't aware of how to confirm it. It took me about 10 minutes of trying my first time to get Blitz out correctly.

I remember that part, I just never knew how to do a Blitz until I read it in the manual. I saw the target selection come up and couldn't figure out why I couldn't select anything other than Sabin.

To be honest, I don't think there's a single other RPG out there that requires you to input fighting game moves, so if you were unfamiliar with that genre, it might give you some pause on entering them. I couldn't enter any of Sabin's blitzes that required a diagonal press for example because I was entering the commands one at a time (IE, press Down, release the pad then press Down-Right, release and press Right, etc). Thankfully, the only required Blitz in the game is pummel's left-right-left, which is very simple to input.

>> No.2001368

>>2001363
I think other games that rely on player input beyond menu commands typically do a much better job at it than FF6 did. Mario RPG, Paper Mario, and Shadow Hearts all come to mind.

Which is fine in a way, because as far as I can remember, FF6 was the first JRPG that did this.

Even though the OP is an idiot, I don't know if people here are also as stupid or just haven't played this game in a while, but it's confusing to know exactly when to press the 3 button command.
If you input the buttons when you would intuitively think to do so having never before played the game, it will just say incorrect input, as you think you're selecting to begin the button sequence when in fact you are confiming you've finished its input.

The game tells you to
1. Select blitz
2. Push left right left
3. Push A

If you push left right left BEFORE selecting blitz, all you would do was bring up the defend command twice, which is obviously wrong.

How is ANY of this vague to anyone? How much clearer can it be?

>> No.2004403

>>2004328
Let me make this clear for you. When you select Blitz, a hand appears over your character, as if to select him. Anyone who has never played FF6 before but has played any other RPG would take this as an indication you are selecting your character, and then to input the blitz command afterwards.

But that isn't how it works. The game wants you to input the command WHILST the hand is hovered over your character, and never explains this, which is what leads to the great deal of frustration. It is completely unintuitive.

It only takes one time of realizing "oh I need to actually input the buttons here" to forever overcome this "great deal of frustration".

This game is really fucking old, and doesn't come with the conveniences that modern game design insists on having. I figured this out in the third grade, I'm pretty sure you can figure it out too.

In any case, if your panties are gonna be in such a twist about it, just play the mobile version.

>> No.2004449

You select Blitz and then you notice nothing is happening. The game told you to press buttons and then hit A.
If you press anything that isn't the right command you get a FAILED message.
So that makes it clear enough that after selecting Blitz you're meant to hit the exact sequence of buttons you're told to and then hit A again.

I agree that it's unintuitive but the game is very clear about what to do with this new system it's presenting. It spells it out. It could have been just in the manual but unlike most other games it's actually told to you in-game.

Actually, since the game then tells you 'incorrect input' your first instinct is 'oh, I must have entered the sequence wrong', so then you keep trying making sure you're pressing the 3 buttons correctly, but still at the wrong time. Unless logic works differently for you or something. The error message serves only to work against you.

Fucking pleb. You can double up on the actual directions instead of doing the diagonals

I still do this day don't know if it actually makes a difference what you do during that fight. I've tried sitting doing nothing through it and I've tried beating the shit out of him, it seems to have the same effect no matter what. Best explanation I've found is that his dark wave probably causes enough self-damage that it will eventually kill him, though hitting him makes it go faster.

Hm. I guess I was wondering since I played the GBA version years ago on the actual GBA, and it was okay, but I can't really remember anything about it. I was going to go with the SNES version because I'm going to emulate it anyway and I have a nice CRT for emulation of games at 480ish that, due to the way I current have it set up, doesn't really work nice for GBA games. For those, I play on my LCD, but they don't look as good, even across the room since they were obviously made for a smaller screen.

Bum Rush was the final Blitz.

Not only that, if you flub it or just attack him, you'll get more messages telling you how to use Pummel.

Seconding this, when I was 10 I had no idea when to actually use the Blitz command. I kept trying it after confirming no-input, and then doing it on or before the flash Sabin performed just before the Blitz. I just thought my timing was awful or something.

The game COULD have been a little clearer, saying that you needed to input the command while the cursor is still over Sabin.

...what? The battle ends automatically after two Darkness attacks, if you haven't attacked.

Stand there and take them or defend through them, and it's over practically instantly.

>if you want to win, do not attack now
The game tells you to not fight your darkness. Also it ends in a few seconds anyways
