In a world where Kojima never made Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and decided to do continue working on original IPs instead, this would've been seen a perfectly acceptable sequel to the original Metal Gear instead of being treated as the black sheep of the series.

The gameplay is pretty faithful to Metal Gear 1 for the most part, managing to recreate the play mechanics from the original MSX2 version more faithfully than the first NES game did, with the only notable departure being the side-view segments that the game occasionally throws in.

The only legit complaints are the awkwardly-translated dialogue and the questionable palette choice for Snake's military fatigues. Otherwise, most of the hate comes from blind Kojima fanboyism.

Genuinely my favorite.

Are you kidding? The NES game is unplayable.

I just recently played MG1 via MGS 3 in the HD collection.

I was actually quite stunned just how metal gear it really was. Kojima really had a defined vision for the games even back then. I couldn't believe how much of MG1 was literally just copied into MGS1. From the areas you explore, the order in which you navigate the environment, all the mechanics and hallmarks are there. If anything MG1 gave me a newfound appreciation for MGS1.

If you thought Metal Gear 1 was very similar to MGS1, wait till you get to Metal Gear 2.

Yes both. Can't stand the NES game.

Then write games next time, instead of game. And on topic, what did you dislike about Snake's Revenge?

This. Metal Gear 2 is also the best in the series. Go play it as soon as you're done with MG1.

Metal Gear on NES was widely considered a classic until Kojima said he hated it. now kiddies that played it for 5 minutes on an emulator and didn't get out of the beginning jungle, say it's shit. Snake's Revenge is good, but for me it doesn't capture the original's atmosphere and overall fun factor and is nowhere near as great MG2.

I prefer Snake's Revenge over Metal Gear 1 (both versions) just for the sheer variety of environments alone. MG1 had too many copypasta environments.
