1980656 No.1980656 [Reply] [Original]

Before the days of voice acting there were several ways of pronouncing made up names.

Have you any stories or names to share regarding this?

Also, here's Quina.

There's nothing to slapfight over when you can just look up the original Japanese phonetic spellings.

I think one of the most mispronounced names in gaming is "Cait Sith". It's gaelic and meant to be said as "kit -she", not "kate-with".

I always pronounced it as "Kate Sith".

Kate like the name and Sith as in Sith lord.

Stupid auto correct, I meant Sith, not with. Either way, Gaelic is very odd to pronounce, it's almost always spoken differently than what you'd think. Like "Sidhe" is said as "she".

I read it as Cat Sith because I thought Cait was an inaccurate translation. Cat Sith makes a lot of sense since it's some kind of dark wizard cat that rides around an ogre-looking thing.

Irishfag here.

I can confirm that 'Cait Sith' is pronounced "Kot shee"

For some reason they went with the Scots Gaelic version, so it's spelled Cait Sith. This confused the shit out fo my when I was younger, but later I l realised that its the equivalent of 'Cat Sídhe' in Irish, i.e. 'fairy cat' (na sídhe aren't fairies, precisely, but close enough. They're the mystical beings like really beautiful people that live in the otherworld in Irish mythology)

No, everyone gave up on that stupid-ass "Bob" shit after T6, since he doesn't even have a motorcycle in that one.

Now he's called Hwoarang because it isn't hard to say and we've had over 15 years to practice saying it.
