Is it superior to an NES game? Obviously, but I'm not a fan of bullet hell games, even if radiant silvergun is tame compared to the more modern bullet hell games, and it wasn't as brilliant as ikaruga imo.

I was mostly just commenting on story though, the post could have been more clear.

Actually if you replace the girls for ships and ignore totally the story as many do with most shmups, 2hu is pretty much the same as many other shmups.

Also, Treasure shmups are fun.

Have you actually played the games? I don't think any other shmup has attack patterns as heinously drawn out as Touhou does. Or levels as mindlessly repetitive. (Although Cave games come fairly close in that regard.)
