Yoshi has definitely seen better days. Nintendo keeps handing him off to those Artoon guys that probably shouldn't be in the biz anymore. Yarn Yoshi looks very promising though.

I was just thinking that it's pretty weird that they named him Yoshi, and then kept it for his American localization. Like, in Japan, Yoshi is just a dude's name. But to the rest of the world, Yoshi is gonna forever refer to a motherfucking species of long-tongued egg-throwing dinosaur. I remember being all "WHOA THAT JAPANESE DUDE'S NAME IS YOSHI TOO I WONDER IF PEOPLE MISTAKE HIM FOR DINOSAURS" but to the japs he might as well be Mario's pal Steve.

Yeah but in Japan it's more like a nickname, ヨッシー (Yossy, as sometimes he is refered to in japanese engrish), it's a little bit different than the more common Yoshi (which would be, in katakana, ヨシ), which is short for common names such as Yoshihiro, Yoshiko, etc.
Not like it's a huge difference, but the subtle differences between Yossy and Yoshi are there for the japanese, for the rest of us, not so much as it sounds pretty much the same either way to us.

Yoshi was my favorite character when I was a kid, but now I'm just kind of indifferent to him.

The design change is a big part of it. I loved Yoshi because he was a baby dinosaur. But now he looks like... I don't fucking know. A sock puppet with a huge green ball and googly eyes glued to the front. That's not a fucking snout, it's just a ball!

Also, I know it was at one point going to be a shell in SMW development, but there was absolutely no reason to change his saddle back into a shell. It looks stupid.

I also don't dig the idea of Yoshi talking like a god damn pokemon.

All that aside, his status in the Mario series has fallen pretty far. He was a cameo in 64, in Sunshine he actually dissolved in water, and in Galaxy 2 he was just a head floating in space.

It finally looked like they were going to treat him right in Galaxy 2 and NSMB, but guess what, you only get to use him in specific levels, and leave him behind... that is ridiculous. the SNES could let you keep a Yoshi, but you mean to tell me Wii and Wii U cannot?

Also, Yoshi's Island is the only truly good Yoshi game.

Nintendo doesn't really make classic arcade style DK games anymore, just DKC, and those lemmings knockoffs.

I think DK Junior should make a comeback, and have his own series that plays pretty much the way Donkey Kong '94 did.
