I was not prepared for Neifirst vs Nei fight. I was actually surprised it happened sooner in the game than I expected. I heard in the remakes you can bring Nei back if you followed some steps in the first remake and transferred your save data.

what are you doing?

Shir is useful for stealing items from shops. Be sure to steal the visiphone from Paseo's Central Tower, it'll let you save anywhere. Hugh isn't very good unless you power level due to the lack of biomonsters after defeating Neifirst.

What's your party so far?

These three clowns are pretty much useless for the last 3rd of the game.
Shir learns some okay techs, but she doesn't have the resources to use them effectively.
There are both mechanical and bio creatures on Dezolis so Hugh and Kain have at least some uses with their techs, but if you bring both of them you'll be leaving out either a powerhouse or healer.
Won't spill anything else though on why you shouldn't bring them

Like >>1969702, by using either High, Kain or Shir you're missing out on a powerhouse,. In your case you're missing out on my man Brudof Steiner, who's an absolute beast with the gear you're bound to find soon.

Playing with the Rolf/Rudo/Anna/Amy setup lets you have three dedicated and very powerful attackers as well as a healer, and it'll help you out if you ever have a hard time. But to be honest I think it's kind of boring to play with the optimal characters all the time. I do like to use Kain and Hugh, their limited use and versatility makes everything more challenging. Shir is also strategic because her high agi allows her to be first every turn, and once you get your end game equipment (which you can use as items to cast spells) she'll be very useful and versatile.

So if you like experimenting with the system and challenging yourself try to level up everyone. If you want to have the very best party you can just ditch Kain and start using Rudo asap.

well Ive had this discussion at length before and Ill spare the long version but what I said then was

PS2 was HARD!
PS4 was challenging.

the first games (and most games of that era) did all that as you said BULLSHIT in terms of dungeon design, difficulty spike and all that. That's not challenge that's the game out to rape you in the ass.

4 seems easy compared to the others but that's because it's fairer. You're given plenty of methods and tools to win and it's on you to find them. A surprise attack can still leave you wrecked and you can't just close your eyes through it. You have to pay attention but if you know how to play you can get by.

It was a couple of years ago when I played the game the last time. PS2 is my favourite part of the series, although the game can be pretty long-winded, especially in the dungeons at the beginning of the game. After the battle with Neifirst, which caught me by surprise the first time I played it, left a huge gap in my party....

AFAIK, I always dumped Kain/Hugh as soon as possible to use Rudo and Anna for maximum attack power. Kain/Hugh would run out of MP too soon in the long dungeons later in the game and would be pretty useless without their spells.

Amy, as a healer, would be more useful to use in Dezolis/towards the end of the game. Honestly, if I went to another planet, I'd rather have a doctor with me than a biologist or wrecker. So do it!

I never actually used Shir, apart from this stealing shit from shops that you SHOULD do before going to Dezolis!

I haven't played in a while, but I remember every dungeon after Medusa basically being a crap-shot. Either I got lucky and didn't have to fight endless marauders/dragons/whatever or I did, ran out of healing supplies and TP and had to try again.

Its a shame Demi is useable for such a small amount of the game and is mostly overshadowed by Wren except for medipower during the last dungeon/ boss.
She was my favorite character, always being so chipper and getting all excited when talking about vehicles or when Wren would compliment her.
Also I loved how she was so short she had to walk twice as fast to keep up with the rest of the party.

That remake has no monster animations. That makes it the single worst looking Phantasy Star in existence, even if it looks nice in screenshots. Avoid like the zombie plague.

>Noah...runs out of TP too soon,
But he's your strongest physical attacker! The spells aren't even worth using most of the time.

There was a numan in PSO who mentioned something about how she could die at any time. But it's not really built upon further.

Da fuck? Are we even playing the same game?

I think that's just cause she was a member of a group of very bad people

I was under the impression that it was because she was reflecting on the fact that Newmans are genetically engineered and thus unforseen flaws can surface. I can't remember which quest though.

either way it's not really explored any but given how common the numan are by that point Im inclined to think they got the kinks ironed out.

It's possible Sue(was that her name) was a bootleg though?

If you follow a walkthrough you'll probably have to grind, but the encounters fought following NPC clues and exploring dungeons should be more than adequate.

I can't even fathom why you're having so much trouble. Enemies hit softly and die quickly. Do you not have the Laconian equipment and Frad Mantle or something? Do you not know you can save in dungeons? Are you spamming Thunder instead of putting Noah on post-battle healing duty? Do you buy Burgers? Do you realize the Laser Gun is Odin's best weapon?

Was there ever a retranslation or anything for PSIV? I tried playing it a few years ago, but the awkward dialogue kind of turned me away from it.

There's a proper-caser patch, but that's it.
I don't remember the translation being bad, though.
