Don't you wish there was a TV that could handle anything perfectly? How hard can it be switch modes, refresh rates, resolutions, etc? It's 2014 already!

They also need to make a single perfect cable instead of having five different varities, or fifteen if you go international. there's literally no benefit to having lesser cables, so let's just have one and done. you can sell adapters to make it fit old consoles, you'd make millions.

and best of all, it'd end all 4chan vr bickering threads! just kidding, that'll never end.

So basically a slim line widescreen flatscreen CRT with every input under the sun and multiple audio outputs including direct to speakers and my personal favorite 4:3 blinds to cover the parts of the screen not used in that mode

>> No.1957298

>>1957292
well you wouldn't need every input under the sun if they made the ideal cable. just a bunch of inputs for those with an adapter on the other end to plug in your consoles (all future devices would just hack the ideal cable plug already)

Well they made SCART, didn't they? For SD it's the ideal connector.
Also pic related.

it's easier if you just slap all the inputs on the TV, it's not like it would take up a lot of room and you'll cover everyone's needs with at least on form of each A/V input

create an exchange program, problem solved.

Is 4-5 frames input lag bad for a HDTV displaying 480i?

It's pathetic that there even is input lag, though.

actually that's pretty smart, exchange old cables = free materials for new cables, keep costs down

Nope. Don't wish that at all. I'm happy having a few right tool for the right job screens that don't break the bank. I also have no problem with having a choice of inputs/cables. A CRT with a tuner, composite, svideo and component/RGB gives me the best possible picture out of any retro console. I end up using only two of those anyway. Sounds to me like you're inventing solutions to problems that don't exist.

>> No.1958637

>>1957318
Depends on a lot of stuff.
If you're speedrunning games that have frame perfect inputs (Mike Tyson uses frame perfect inputs to get Stars for fast KO's) it can be, but then again you can also adapt to the input lag.

>1 cable for everything
HDMI is becoming the standard. Any kind of Analog cable is going the way of the Dodo for your average consumer.

Yeah I get that whole Analog > Digital thing for enthusiasts but not everyone wants to buy cables with gold connectors just to get slightly improved signals when you could just get a 5 dollar HDMI cable that works perfectly 100% of the time.

>Don't you wish there was a TV with freely mod-able firmware?

yeah.
so the tv accepts 480i but rejects 240p? replace the firmware with a popular 3rd party version.

does anyone know if it exists, or if not, why not?

A perfect TV would need to be switchable from CRT-style raster scan to LCD-style sample-and-hold (for low framerate input). Post proof if such a TV exists.

SCART is a shit standard for this very reason. It can be anything it wants and often times people don't label.

Also most scart cables have poor shielding, causing audio buzz in a lot of shit. Also pain in the ass to solder to as a lot are cramped. Give me BNC/RCA cables any day as far as connectors go.

>> No.1959226

As an electrical engineering technician my father always connected my consoles with scart since the snes, and i had always the best possible quality for audio and video.
Maybe in america scarts are badly produced.

That would explain why people crave so much over RGB as if it's something new.

What do you mean crave? If vga was more widely available I'd use vga.
But I'm in the process of getting jp21 cables since that's pretty much the best I can do from NES to N64.

I mean that people in europe didn't care much since scart has always been the most viable option.

>> No.1959387

Well in America most TVs don't even have an rgb port. And by most I mean basically all of them. The only people doing rgb now are retro gamers with rgb wires and adapters.

pretty weird, seeing as how in europe lcd still have multiple scart ports.

>> No.1959408

>>1959394
Ya might had been interesting if America just fallowed japan for rgb.
There's no point for American TVs to suddenly start adding rgb ports. VGA, DVI, and HDMI have taken over and are better.

Ya those standards are world wide and no one makes any mentionable variations. That I know of anyway.
Wish the modders would focus on making vga output over rgb. Though I think the focus needs to be on scalers not TVs or cables.
