One of my favorites and my all time favorite game in the Prince of Persia/Out of This World/Flashback style.

Great animations and a lot of good ideas. It probably had a hard time finding an audience since the story and art style scream kids game but the difficulty and shocking deaths may put off younger players.

Oddworld fleshed out the genre much better.

I just never got the appeal of these games. Honestly, the entire style and feel and everything about them just felt unbelievably shitty.

>> No.1951272

Loved it as a kid, probably love it more now. It's easily my favourite game aesthetically, I just wish they used the larger monsters more and had a few more boss battles.

>> No.1951285

>>1951116
They're not too bad. Kind of the precursor to the old Tomb Raider style (made obvious by the GBC Tomb Raider games). And ultimately, games like Uncharted wouldn't exist without the evolutionary steps that got us there. (weather that's good or bad is up to the individual though)

Anyway, games like this are not supposed to be "fun" in that "zip around the screen murdering everything in sight and making fast jumps" kind of way. They're about trial and error, exploration, learning mechanics, ect. They're adventure games more than anything.

I do respect your stance on the topic though. I'm not one of those guys who'll call you out and make a big deal out of your opinion being different or whatever. I'm just trying to give you an idea of what the actual appeal is, because I know a lot of people (especially currently) think nothing but action games are fun and don't "get" games like this.

My neighbour won this in some VG magazine competition or something. He was given one disc in a thin, unlabelled case. The game has two discs.

Fantastic game. I just beat it again last week I was just going to show my wife the beginning of it because she loves Spielberg movies, and I distinctly remember getting the same whimsical adventure vibes from HoD's intro CG sequence, and I only realized three hours have passed once I breezed through disc 1, and it still holds up splendidly.

Those fucking wall worms are legit horrifying, though.

To me it's one of those games they tried to push back in the day. They gave out demo's pretty much everywhere. When I first played the demo I was really impressed by the intro cutscene, but dissapointed when it got to the actual game. The cutscene was visually impressive and had a sort of toy story feel to it. The actual gameplay was bland and for some reason the whole game used only washed out brown, grey, green or blue colors whereas the intro scene was very lush.

I've got quite a nice collection of games from the 90's, back then I actually bought games (still bought games up until Oblivion, but that's another board...). Fallout2 is a personal prize, I'm quite fond of the Resident Evil 2 box also for some reason, but I think that one is a bit banged up, sadly... my parents just dumped all my games in the attic when I moved out and some boxes were luckier than others.

Holy shit, this thread is still alive.
The game reached the destination and after all those years i'm shocked by how reactive the controls are.
Most times when playing cinematic platforms you know animations will have a slight lag induced by the realistic animations, but HoD really put your reflexes to the test.

The nostalgia also skyrocketed, since for some strange reason i had a kinder brioss lying around which brought me back to my elementary school times.
