Strange video game hardware thread.

This is the Phillips-Goldstar CD-I 370, a portable CD-I, I find interesting that a system like this can have a portable form factor.

I was about to make fun of that power strip being almost as big as the system, but then remembered the Xbox in all its forms is like that too.

I dunno; seems Sega was very keen to licensing their hardware. I'd imagine it's also due to the fact their first-party stuff was always outsourced manufactured by another company, like Hitachi and Sony.

There were also Samsung-branded Saturns and Mega Drives as well.

My whole SMS set needs work, actually.

My console is the long, red one with a triangle led. TecToy huehue model. All dirty, needs cleaning, but otherwise works perfectly.

My LightPhaser is misaligned. Doesn't fire straight ahead, but instead fires a bit to the right.

The Glasses are cracked in the middle, but I don't think that's a problem. The adaptor is probably fucked up, but when I tried to open it the screws were so rusted that they were scrapping off and I couldn't pull them away, even using a proper tool.

Yeah, I always thought TecToy did Sega a pretty good service. Shame their products never made it this far north. We at least got Majesco, but they dropped the ball. They made a pretty good repro Game Gear that was actually more durable than the original. Only real downside from what I understand was you couldn't use the TV tuner on it. I would personally have used LED's as well for the LCD backlight, but it used the same backlight that eventually burns out and makes battery consumption ungodly.

The DC could have been a nice set top box, thin client, internet and multimedia machine with all the planned (and some current add ons)
Mouse, keyboard, VGA box, Dreameye, Karaoke unit, the microphone you attached to the controller.
Zip Drive, DVD Player, MP3 VMU.
Broadband adapter.

Saturn backwards compatibility would have been fairly difficult to implement in my opinion. A service where you could download Mega Drive games to the Zip drive and play them on the dreamcast not that much.

The Dreamcast tanked because there was no way SEGA could hold it but it was doing well enough when it was alive. (But not immensely good enough for people to stop thinking about the PS2)

The dull red patches you'll see in the animation were actually flickering bright red, and the dull yellow was flickering bright yellow. The toys would read these patterns and react accordingly. If you pulled the trigger on a red target, you got points. If you didn't point the toy away from the screen shortly after a yellow attack appeared, you'd take a hit. Too many, and your pilot would be forcibly ejected from the craft.

Anyone who had both the 32X and Sega CD (and what the hell, a Master System) back in the 90's knew how much of a Godsend this was.

Why don't companies make more adapters like that? it's 2014 and there are still gadgets that use black box plugs.

Nearly everyone at Epyx was from Amiga.

I'm sure Atari also used Amiga master race systems in their role of marketing the console. Good graphics and multitasking is a lot more useful for doing that than a midi port is.

LOL i remember that. Ps2 had one too i think. I got the ps2 nyko controller with the built-in keypad back in the day myself. It was a lot more convenient than this thing. Used it to RE outbreak, N4SU and a few others.
