I've seen some pretty insane SM runs, but this compilation video of tricks you can do is insane. There are shortcuts and glitches that I never even knew about. I would have NEVER tried any of this shit back when I first played it. Back then I was just trying to beat the game.

Post any other cool tricks or moments in Super Metroid that made you go "Whoa..."

When players activate shinespark when running a short distance.

I don't know much about the technical aspect of SM speedrunning, so I don't know if it's considered impressive or not, but I can't do that worth a shit.

SM speedrunning is considered to be very difficult, especially at the higher levels of competition

There's three speeds of shinespark charge. There's "held run, moved forwards" for slowest charge, there's "moved forwards, held run, kept moving" for a bit faster charge, and then there's "black TAS magic" for charging in a few steps.

That's humanly possible, though. It's just a thing of timing. SM only checks on certain frames if the button is pressed. If you press on these frames, you get to quick charge the shinespark.

I'm sure it's humanly possible, but I never see it in the runs I watch. Might just be watching the wrong ones.

A lot of TAS stuff is theoretically possible, but so improbable for a human to pull off consistently in a longer length speed run as to be practically impossible. In fact, I believe that's one of the realms of a TAS run -- in effect making a "gameplay perfect" (Maybe not perfect in the sense someone could discover a quicker route in a run) run through a game to act as sort of a "key" of what might be the best time assuming a perfect run.

It depends on the nature of the tool assist. Any tools are tool assist, it doesn't have to be frame by frame. It can be multi-segment with rewind and that would be a TAS. The frame by frame shit is generally yeah well beyond what a human can do.
