What do you think about Shadowgate?

>> No.1946118

>>1946103
Love it and it's probably my favorite MacVenture game.

>> No.1946138

One of my favorites as a kid. Kick ass music. Excited for the remake coming out soon.

>> No.1946203

Got bored having to deal with a bunch of trial and error on a clunky interface but it has a weird charm to it.

one of the best p&c adventure games on the NES IMO
second only to Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom

Its a fantastic game, I also really enjoyed The invited and the Deja Vu games too

>> No.1947657

I like Deju Vu better. The logic required to solve the puzzles in Shadowgate can be so ass-backwards sometimes, not the nice, logical progression of Deja Vu where you have to punch the hooker in your way.

It's already out, actually.

Grim reaper in the game over screen gave me nightmares. Instant death when your torches went out did not help me get over my fear of the dark as a kid.

...also couldn't beat it because it was fucking hard and everything killed me. I got as far as burning the mummy for the scepter, getting the orb from the shark pool, and fooling the troll.

I've got it but haven't bothered playing it since the way they programmed it means that torches run out really fast on modern computers. Also there's no music.

I don't mind the multiple windows, but it's the general Windows OS look that feels too "professional" (workplace environment) that I don't like. The Amiga version feels more like 80's home computer, and that makes me happy.

Those things are better left at work IMO. I don't want to bring office environment home, or even think about it when I'm trying to relax.

Heck, even when I'm lucky enough to have Unix workstation at work, I make a point to use an entirely different window manager at home. Anyway, 80's home computer will always evoke the best feels for me.

Nothing wrong with that. I was amazed that some versions of Shadowgate Returns included the old Swedish translation. It is easier to own that port than the NES one due to the lack of region lock

I played this a *ton* with my friend Steve during our middle school years. Really a formative game for me, and we would do "speed runs" amongst ourselves for friendly competition. God that game is great on the NES - fantastic music, and the graphics were reasonable. I prefer the graphics and interface on the Mac version, but the music of the NES and my nostalgia just win out.

I'd say play it yourself and find out. I personally liked it. It's got its own creepy vibe of isolation, and while I'd say it's easier than the original, it still has its share of burtal deaths. The controls are awkward art first, but you get used to them. I'd say it's more it's own thing, so don't expect the original, but I like it. And it feels more like first game than Beyond Shadowgate on the Turbo CD, which is more like King's Quest than anything else.

I see, maybe was very expensive to them making the game on NES, and they did it on GBC with with the first game.

I really hope they make the new version of Uninvited and Deja Vu, now that they did the remake of Shadowgate.
