Also, what (hopefully cheap) games should I pick up?
I hear nes collection is cheaper than SNES, but I haven't really compared prices yet.

rumor on the street has it that NES prices are going down slighty for most games while 4th gen and up are raising even more especially Genesis games. But Abadox, SMB, Batman (Sunsoft), Blaster Master and Dragon Warrior.

for common stuff, yeah mostly. SNES prices are completely fucked. NES overall is cheaper, and its far easier to get more good games with less cash.
Kirby's Adventure is a great one to pick up, its like 10-15 on ebay.

Dragon Warrior has aged poorly in my opinion. If you want to play Dragon Warrior 1 you're better off getting the DW 1+2 combo on Gameboy instead.

/vr/ is a very slow board, there's no need to bump every few minutes. Just getting off page 1 takes something like an hour.

Also Bubble Bobble.

Bruv, /vr/ is slow as hell and its like 1 am in EST

stop the bumps

In general, NES games are cheaper than SNES. But that's due to a variety of factors, the main one being there's many more NES games out there that are just junk. As far as great titles under $10 go I recommend RacketBoy's list.

http://www.racketboy.com/retro/nintendo/nes/the-best-nes-games-under-10

Prices may have changed since it was made, but it's a good place to start. Skip Simon's Quest though, it sucks.

Other sub $10 games I can think of...

Journey to Silius
The Guardian Legend
Adventure Island
Batman
Kickle Cubicle
Wrath of the Black Manta
Star Tropics
Snake Rattle N' Roll

Start there. If you have two controllers and a buddy to play with, I'd splurge and get Bubble Bobble. It's more than $10 but it's arguably the best co-op game on the NES.

Here is a list of games to try after playing (or in this case collecting) the must have classics like Mario, Zelda and Megaman that everyone already knows about.
