I like Legend of Dragoon, but it's combat is a bit different from most JRPGs of the time, so you'll either love it or hate it.

And no no no, Persona is one spin-off of SMT. There are tons of SMT games! I advise playing the Persona 2 duology though, 1 isn't very good. But other than that, check out SMT:Soul Hackers, and SMT 1 and 2.
