I made this few years ago and the purpose of this image was to suggest some lesser known NES games to try after playing through the must-play classics like Mario, Zelda and Mega Man that everyone already knows about.
Yes, I already know it's missing some games like Mr.Gimmick and Zen: Intergalactic Ninja.

Also if I were to update this:
Do you think games like Crystalis, Guardian Legend and River City Ransom are too popular/well known to be on this list?
Should I take out some games like AD&D Pool of Radiance and Ultima: Quest of the Avatar that aren't NES exclusives?
Any suggestions for other games to include in this?

I just bought a saturn, and I'm wondering if the swap trick will fuck it up badly. Can I use it no problem or should I really just bite the bullet and get a modchip?

Get one of those 3rd party memory cards. Doesn't have to be an action replay.

You can play imports and save your games when the battery dies every few years.

The only Dreamcast one I know of is pretty poor, missing alot of great titles at the expense of Sports games and PC ports

Needs Capcom's Gold Medal Challenge '92, or was that popular?

Samurai Zombie Nation, not quite sure if it should be on there or not. It's pretty average but the plot is hilariously bizarre

I'm here to bitch. These lists are fucking stupid, as well as anyone who ask's "what game should I play?".

If you feel like playing a game, do some research yourself and find something that interests you. Damn sheep ass plebs.

This website is great for choosing a new game to play:

There's no way in hell an N64 controller is a better choice over mouse and keyboard for an FPS. Only an extremely small segment of Doom players would choose that.

I through Adventures of Lolo games were well known, at least for people who grew up with NES? Well, I added it anyway even if I already had Eggerland, the Japanese version of Lolo with (some?) different levels in there.

>Hello Kitty World
I'm not familiar with this, I'll check it out some time.

>Milon's Secret Castle
I kinda like this game myself but most people don't and AVGN's review of it isn't exactly helping. Will put it in if I ever upgrade this again.

>>1932670
It wasn't ever officially released but it was already on my list.

Hello Kitty World was a japanese-only release, so that's why it's not well-known. There's a translated rom (by HKKA) but it's an action game so it's probably possible for most people to play the original also.

As for Milon's Secret Castle, it was pretty challenging for me, but the game's enchanting atmosphere kept me coming back to keep exploring. Anyway it's nothing as hard or unfair as some other games like say Deadly Towers... Heck I don't think it's harder than Ghosts 'n Goblins (that one took me a long time to beat too). And I think game critics tend to always amplify negative stuff, to make their show or column more interesting or whatever.

Rec lists are part of research though. They show a bunch of commonly liked games within a certain specification (console, genre, year, etc.). Sure people should also try to search further, but for a lot of people rec lists are just one source of information, just like looking at sites like that (thanks for the link, by the way), and lurking communities like /vr/ to discover new games though discussion.

I just tried Hello Kitty World out and here is a short mini review:

Let's start with the first minute impression anyone randomly trying the game out is going to have:
>This is a Balloon Fight rip-off with Hello Kitty characters!
According to quick Google search this is actually true, apparently this game started it's live as a sequel to Balloon Fight on the Game Boy but was ported and Hello Kittified for famicom.

Anyway anyone who has played the "balloon trip" mode in Balloon Fight gets the basic idea here. The screen automatically scrolls to left and you have to occasionally tap A to float higher in air to avoid falling into ocean. You control the horizontal movement like in most games but you can get a surprisingly high momentum going especially compared to how slowly the screen scrolls in this game. Now there are some differences to Balloon Fight here for example there are lots of patches of lands and platforms for you to stand and walk on, in fact there are many places where you have to get rid of your balloons and go on by foot. When on foot the controls are very slippery and some jumps are hard to judge. Now after you get used to the controls the game is very easy, after few levels insuntingly so but then after about 5 levels the difficulty ramps up. I honestly got my ass kicked by the ice level and couldn't beat the level after it.

In conclusion I'm having hard time recommending this game but it is much more interesting and challenging than it looks at first so it's a good candidate to the list if I'm going to update it again.

never found them any useful. The jist I get from them is just - other people like these games, you should too! Most of them are the usual generic crap with a couple goodies. I prefer just looking through the libraries on my own

This list is great, thanks. I've always wanted a Saturn, and will probably buy one by the end of the year. I know where I can get one for around $60, which I don't think is too bad, and I mainly need it to finish up my horror game obsession collection.
