What's your favorite console design?

I really love the NES 2 or Top Loader. This thing is comfy and saves quite a bit of space.

that is also my fav. i love the top loader design and lack of extra moving parts. i also like the new crisp color scheme and the fact that the plastic didn't turn orange after time. i still have the same one i got from toys r us the very first day they hit the stores. haven't played it in a while, but now i want to play some faxanadu

NES 2 just plain looks cool

>> No.1919412

SNES mostly based on my own biased nostalgia of it being the first thing I associated with "fun" as a kid.

It just makes me happy looking at them.

I'd say it's a tossup between the Dreamcast and the PlayStation

>> No.1919421

The SNS-001 and the Net Yaroze. Both have great colors. I've actually not seen the Net Yaroze in person, but I'm assuming it's pretty close to my "black" PlayStation controller (which is actually closer to a graphite color). I hate the deeper/polished blacks in newer consoles. I guess it's supposed to look like lacquer, but with plastic it just looks cheap.

As for the worst design, that would have to go to the Genesis Model 2. What an ugly console. All those obnoxious details in the plastic collect a fine patina of dust over time, and the power/reset buttons feel cheap and flimsy (much like the mushy buttons on the controller).

Systems that I've actually owned..

Sega Genesis Model 1.
Playstation 1.
Playstation 2.

I like blocky. Hate curvy.

That motherfucker looks taken stright out from a 90s mecha/cyberpunk anmime.

I don't know what I would say, I love the dreamcast but as the SNES guy I may be biased. Still it's compact and gently wavey it really looks like a dream machine.

NEC consoles were also nice too.

I like the second generation Genesis and the SNES as well, but the original Playstation design is my most favorite.

I love how the Famicom/Super Famicom looks outright. I don't know why the NES was an ugly grey block in comparison. If the NES was sold alongside R.O.B as a "toy", wouldn't the Famicom's design look more toy-like then the NES VCR grey? IMO even the American SNES looked ugly compared to the European SNES/ Super Famicom.

For me, my favorite looking console would be the PSOne, I know it arguably isn't "retro" enough for this board since it came out in 2000, but god damn look how adorable it looks.

It resulted in people placing liquid food on top of it and ruining the machine by spilling said liquids.
Hence why Nintendo redesigned the SFC to reduce the amount of liquid placement.

Are we talking mechanical or aesthetic?

If we're talking mechanical, I'm going with the SNES. Very intuitive. Simple eject button. The fuckers never break.

Aesthetically I'm going with pic related. I don't know why but I've always thought the Master System looked sexy as fuck.

I'm a fan of the PS4's design, too.

I honestly prefer the original NES. For some reason I just like the box look, especially if you get it painted, umf.

Aesthetically it looks better with the original controllers too (the dogbone controllers honestly aren't that great, they fucked up the button placement) and is easier and less expensive to mod than the toploader. Everyone talks about the toploader being more reliable, which it is, but after replacing the pins and disabling the lockout chip I've never had a problem with my toaster.
