Click download ZIP.
Extract the *-master folder somewhere.
Enter the directory.
Double click on _zip.bat.
Follow the instructions.
Run the newly created .pk3 or .pk7 file in (G)Zdoom by either dragging and dropping, using ZDL, or by double clicking on the file, if you have file associations set up.

The weapons you use in Guardian Legend would be alt fire weapons, kinda like how demonsteele's primary fire is always the sword but considering the facts that there are more than 7 weapons, special slots + randomized spawn pickups would be needed [the EE bombs could be inventory items].

The big deal here would be how to make the weapons work in a Three-dimensional space.

Oh and forgot some other fact, the laser gun is only used in Shmup sections in the game, which kinda sucks because its not easy for doom to make Shmup sections[and to say the least, the idea is just to port the weapons, not to make a TC], the weapon could be a BFG replacement, because it deals big damage

Oh and other thing, the upgrades[health, power and weapons], Megasphere=Weapon upgrade[Up to 3 upgrades per weapon]+fullhealth+1 power upgrade[up to 4 upgrades]+1 armor upgrade[up to 8 upgrades]., and of course it gives you a full health/armor recharge. Soulsphere=Health upgrade, max. number of upgrades are 10, after that its only full healths. Backpack=Chip upgrade

There should be a menu called Compatibility Options to fiddle with gameplay related settings, which includes mouse aim, just make sure you also set the mouse to work.

Options > Mouse Options > Always Freelook (or something like that)

Though, if you're doing that, I would turn off autoaim (Options > Player Setup > Autoaim Never) because your bullets might completely miss where you're aiming.

If you still want autoaim with no freelook, but don't want to be moving forward or backward, just set the "forward/backward speed" slider to 0.

If you want, I can post my bind that lets you switch between no-freelook-autoaim and freelook-no-autoaim by pressing a button.

If you make enemies never flinch then I'm not seeing a reason to ever use them.

You should make it so that you have energy returned on hitting something but make it small.
Make the cost of use more than the returns.
Make it so you can't machine gun fire it freely on everyone.
Give a reduced chance to flinch if you feel you need to as well.

I made this for you, /vr/:
Requires this:
(a slightly edited CC4-texture pack, a whopping 3 or 4 new textures. Sorry. A normal cc4-tex.wad would mostly work, but you'll get giant red missing texture in some places)

Replaces MAP30, and has a modified plasma rifle. Tested in prboom+, so you should probably use that to play it.

It could probably be polished up some more, but I gotta call it quits at some point, so this is that point.

I have no idea what happened, but after exiting zdoom with this wad on after getting tired of prboom's mouse feel, my computer keeled over and had a seizure. I heard a few error dings, Explorer.exe died, and then lost all control of my computer. Ctrl+alt+del, ctrl+shift+esc, alt+tab, even trying to reboot got me nothing. No disk activity. Trying a reboot got me a plain desktop without Explorer and another ding. Clicking the My Computer icon just got me a loading cursor with no disk activity, and nothing happened. Had to hard-restart.

I even checked the wads beforehand with Slade3 and it looked pretty ordinary. Be careful with this one? I don't know. Malwarebytes came up with nothing besides some PuPs. Never had anything like that happen before.

There is like 30 imps to fight with only 2 weapons at your disposal : pistol and plasma gun. Considering you can hear an Archevil in the map, that you fight several of them, as well as several Revenants and a Baron, any sensible person wouldn't waste his plasma on Imps of all things.
There is also nothing pointing out that you're going to have to use your pistol on a switch, and not a single pistol ammo in the map. Also, there is absolutely no reason for the switch to be 'shoot only', it could have very well been one you activate with use.

He should have made that switch push-able or added a bit of pistol ammo nearby or at least somewhere in the map. You can't put the blame of such a bad decision on the player.

By the time you get the berserk, you've already fought 80% of the Imps in the map. I was already out of pistol ammo. And what tells you I had 200 plasma gun ammo when I used the pistol? Most imps are at the START of the map, where it's logical to use the pistol.

There is no reason for the switch to be shoot only, the mapper purposely made it so that you can't even punch it as a big "lol fuck you", and you're still defending it.
Now I understand why the majority of Doom usermaps aren't very good.

There's more ammo scattered about in nooks and crannies. If you feel like you're wasting ammo shooting at a monster then just run off and come back to it when you have a better gun/more ammo (revenant towers).

I always preferred maps where ammo was scarce, so it may not be to everyones liking

It would have to be melee. I find myself out of ammo in a lot of harder wads, and the chainsaw doesn't come around right away (usually). I think something slower than a fist but with more power than a pistol.

Considering they give you out a shotgun with 24 shells to kill 14 imps on the ledge using pistol for that is not quite logical. Then things go even better: author gives you out plasma gun and enough cells to take them all for free because monsters are turned backwards and even after that author gives you cells before unleashing monsters at you. The problem here isn't the author being a dick or something like that because for whatever reason no one (even testers) didn't expect player to do such shit like seriously using pistol in combat versus crowds of imps and versus big enemies while there're better weapons in hands with sufficient ammo. In general my point still stands: this map is simply not foolproof enough.

There is not even a single reason why the switch should be shoot-only. A good mapper and a good tester is supposed to think about every possibility you give to the player, because if it's possible, it will be done. The player can only 'put himself' into the situations you allow.

It's like I said, no wonder most Doom maps aren't very good, you can't even think straight over a mere switch in a small 1024 map, so let's not even talk about full maps. And you're even defending the bad design choice instead, because it seems too hard for you to admit a small mistake. Good mappers are able to look back at their stuff and tell what could have been done better, and that's part of how they get better.

And about the 'testers' thing, I had betatested this map, I would have asked the following :

If you are into visuals, you should try GZDoom with Particle Fire Enhancer, Beautiful Doom, or Brutal Doom. The lightning and particles on these mods looks much better than anything Doomsday can do. Also, check out the OpenGl hack that allows bloom lightning on GZdoom.

It's fully configurable, this was my Hexen render setup. I just like how you can switch games on the fly and there's no convoluted setup for controls/mouse etc. I don't see how it's the worst.
it's not that blurry, if anything it's the 16:9 resolution making the edges look bad. You can alter the particle point lighting and glow a bunch of ways, I'm pretty sure you could prevent the clipping. You can turn off the fps box, it was on by default.
My computer isn't that good, at least in doomsday bloom kills my frames. I just like how you can simply configure doomsday on the fly, switch games with ease and don't have to hassle with control setup. I just added shadows, sky lighting, texture filtering, real-time lights and some halos.

I love both of 'em and I'm a gigantic fucking toku nerd, so when I get to drawing up a sketch, I figure it'll probably end up looking like a cross between a bestial angel and hi-tech power armor.

thanks for watching the demo. it's probably not such a crawlfest once you know the map, but everything after ~7 minutes was previously unseen, combined with the cautiousness from trying not to die made it slow.

in fact i forgot to mention at one point i paused the recording because i was stuck and had to check the map in an editor to figure out how to get the red key. you might have noticed i went around the cavern several times, i was afraid to jump in in case it was entirely lava down there (this was one time where mouselook would have helped, so i could see the floor below...)

i will play the finished version later. hopefully now knowing the layout, i will be able to go a bit faster. :)

You get combo meter from anything hit and from what I can tell you get special meter for deflecting projectiles no matter what.

But you do not get special meter for sword kills unless it's a proper Demonsteele enemy.

And here's why:
1) Pain Elementals control the pace you have to take
Now obviously you can't fuck about with a Pain Elemental because it spawns sturdy enemies so you need to kill it fast

2) Pain Elementals force you to play unsafe to conserve ammo
Since you can't play conservatively with them around you usually have to rush forward to stop them from spawning too damn much.

3) They control space
This is unique to Pain Elementals and Lost Souls due to how infinitely tall actors work.
They can prevent your movement quite a bit depending on where they are at or how much they call out.

They are fantastic enemies.
People just consider them the worst because they are also a nuisance.
They add a lot to Doom levels you know.

Doom 2's enemies are great all around. Not a single bad newcomer.

There is two types of add ons that do somewhat look like it and I guess that's where this idea comes from. The first one would be a muzzle break. It's a short "ventilated barrel" that is added to the end of the actual barrel. Its function is to redirect the escaping gas and reduce recoil.

The other is a heat shield which is a "ventilated barrel" that is cut in half and mounted on top of the actual barrel. Its function is to absorb and dissipate heat from the actual barrel.

But there are no barrels with holes in them for their entire length, that would just defeat the purpose. It's as stupid as having your character use a sword with it's sheathe on but it still cuts people and when asked why you answer "rule of cool".

Anything that is to be propelled through a barrel would benefit from there being no holes in the barrel. Try watering plants with a hose that's full of holes because it looks cooler. See how that works out for you.

Have you ever seen a rocket launcher with holes in it? Yes, even a rocket that is thrusting itself. A barrel with holes in it defeats the purpose of having a barrel.

I think you forget one key annoyance on the lost souls. They take a surprising amount of shots to kill. They honestly should be about as strong as the average zombie. Combine this annoyance with pain elemental's spitting a ton of them out or too many pain elemental's and you've got two extremely annoying enemies to deal with. I like the design and idea but I think the flaw is that the lost soul's are a little bit too strong with health. I still stand by my opinion that they are the worst enemies of Doom and it's rather interesting how they are paired to be even more annoying.

The most important thing to remember though is level design. As long as it's done very well every enemy will seem much better by comparison. Throw in a crap level with those enemies and your gonna have a bad time.

Pic related is a Sterling L2A3 9x19mm submachinegun, it has a perforated barrel shroud, it serves a purpose, making sure you don't touch a gun-barrel that could be really hot from the gun firing.

It is very easy to get a shotgun and it is 7x stronger than the pistol. It also kills things relatively quickly and is reliable on everything except for Barons/Cyberdemon/Mastermind

And the only thing making it not shine against those monsters is how long it takes to kill them.

Because it has relatively realistic spread, unlike the cartoonish blunderbuss you'd see in even more realistically styled games (SWAT4 comes to mind, and particularly Doom 3, where the spread of the shotgun was completely asinine), the swarm of pellets will usually score at the very least half of it's hits (but often more) at a 50ft, which makes perfect sense, shotguns are good for medium distance combat.

See also Duke Nukem 3D, you could quite effectively take on Octobrains and L.A.R.D Cruisers from a medium distance like that, it's practically like shooting skeet except you're circle strafing the clays and they're shooting at you.

Horizontal spread is also possible to achieve with various chokes and muzzle devices, such as this here Ithaca shotgun (which, by the way, you can rapid fire by holding down the trigger and working the pump like a chronic masturbator).

But it also helps that it's a simple and useful weapon that does exactly what's expected of it, and fits the games aesthetics perfectly.

Ithaca M37, with an extended tube magazine and a "duckbill" choke to provide a horizontal spread.

Worth noting is that the M37 ejects out of the same port that you load the shells into, instead of a port on the side of the receiver, they're popular with left-handed shooters for this reason, for being left/right neutral.

Older models lacked a trigger disconnect, so you could slamfire it, holding down the trigger, and continuously working the pump and it would keep firing.

Okay, I'm going to be extremely generous and assume that you legitimately don't know and are just actually curious.

The problem is that Brutal Doom is inherently a massive shitstorm.
It's the same as mentioning 4e on /tg/. It's the same as mentioning Project M in the Smash Bros. threads. It's the same as mentioning Kamen Rider Wizard on /m/. It's the same as talking about "techno" on /mu/.
There are so many fucking pitfalls to be had with the conversation and it's so fucking easy for some shitlord to come along and stir up everything with "Brutal Doom is Doom 2.0" or "[insert mod here] needs to be compatible with Brutal Doom" or "I'm brand new to Doom and played everything through with Brutal Doom" or so so so much goddamn more.
And then there's the obvious bait like "why do you guys hate brutal doom" or "only hipsters hate brutal doom" or "sgt mark did nothing wrong" or "YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS", which couldn't be more low-hanging bait even if you slapped the world's biggest fucking :^) next to it.

Is conversation on Brutal Doom banned? Hell no. You can really talk about whatever you want.
Is the mod completely shunned? Hell no. Ignoring a mod as popular as it would be completely stupid.

That depends entirely on what you want when you say "similar to it".
If you want something that polishes up Doom's base gameplay, then there's Beautiful Doom, Smooth Doom, Polished Skull, and Super Skulltag.
If you want something that makes gameplay faster and much more visceral, there's Psychic, Project MSX, DemonSteele, and Terrorists.
If you want something that's LOADSA PURTY, there's the Blood Droplets mod, Particle Fire Enhancer, and Lovely Doom.

To be completely honest? I feel the mod would be much better if it removed the finishing moves and the "attitude" for lack of a better word. Also the Mancubus fire canon shouldn't leave flame all over the floor. I mentioned that earlier actually.

So essentially I would love to try out anything that does what I just described.

I'm not too sure about MSX. It looks kinda fun I guess but I feel it's way too different from Doom. Smooth Doom looked pretty neat actually. Didn't like how Psychic looked. Polished Skull looks pretty fun.

Actually I'm pretty new to the wads and mods scene and I welcome anything new that looks fun to me.

It's not about the creator nor the mod,is about its userbase.

They over-rate it like if it's the second coming of jesus, some of the reasons from some people that don't like it are just basic stuff[reloading, time eating finishers, silly effects like bulletholes on the screen.], the big problem (imo) is that there are people that think BD is a standalone game which can be loaded with other mods[Protip:it's not] and thinking it will work.
I know Mark is making BDlite, which is making it other mods to be rethorically speaking, BD compatible but in my opinion it would be better if Mark himself told these idiots that you CANNOT load other weapon mods with Brutal Doom because Decorate reasons, or tell them to use Ketchup if they want gore.

In short, we hate the idiots that over-rate BD and try to stir up shit because of past drama like the Jelly train

For instance, I feel that
the creator's code style
the creator's "borrowing" habits
--(the fact that those should or shouldn't be called stealing habits)
the creator's crediting habits
the creator's attitude
the creator's "racism"
the mod's fanbase
and the fact that fans think more highly of the creator and think him more responsible for the game/mod then they perhaps ought to

are all irrelevant as to whether the mod itself is bad.

Ethics and such between modders is great, but leave that to those doomforums to sort out. Here at /vr/ we shouldn't get caught up in that nonsense. We should just be discussing the actual game of DOOM and its mods, no matter how "cancerous" the mod's fanbase is or isn't.

He's getting too much credit?
The fans think he's cool?
He's getting too big for his britches?
He's being hypocritical?

Who cares? /vr/ certainly shouldn't.
All those things didn't change the mod itself in any way, so I don't care.

And the fact is, he does produce content that isn't TOTAL garbage, which makes him a decent contributor to anyone who plays DOOM.

So all this talk about undeserved fame is really irrelevant. So long as we don't WORSHIP him, it's fine.
