1915151 No.1915151 [Reply] [Original]

Recently I got back into Carmageddon. I really love the first games layout and pedestrians, The way the upgrade system works, etc. However 2 has better car control, better maps, and visuals.

Why did they strip so many features from CM2 over the original, though? It's infinitely modable and all around should be a better game, yet I keep going back to CM1!

Also, I guess Carmageddon thread.

Spent so much time on Carmageddon as a kid.

Hundreds of hours spent toroughly crushing every single civilian.

BTW if you haven't played Carmageddon on Hard, you hardly have played the game imo.

As a kid I also had a one level demo of Splat Pack add-on and I would have loved to get it but never even saw it on a storeshelf.

I discovered it trough GOG rather recently and it was cool, but I was disappointed. Only half of the new levels ("worlds" or "areas",which hold several courses each, not sure how to call them) are actually interesting, and the other half are small and empty... But still worth playing for that "good half", the new cars and the new civilains and animals to crush.

I heard Carma1 has an alright modding community but I haven't tried myself. It seems there is a mod out there that adds Splat Pack stuff directly to the original game.

I hope the new one won't suck

Yea, I was looking into that. However Adding cars into the game isn't nearly as easy as with Carma2. I love the idea of being able to put the Death Race 2000 cars into the game....however I can't figure out how to use the damned things.

It can be great.
They just need to optimize
optimize
and also optimize
(I mean, it doesn't even have proper LOD, the very basics of optimizations, and considering any part of civilians can be dismembred and have it own physics, it can be very heavy on the CPU)

why carmageddon was so good back then?
>physics not matched up to much later
carma 2 crash physics was compared to the first DIRT.

same lol

fuck dude we would have been such bros if we knew each other as kids. blood, duke, doom, carmageddon, it's all there.

I never tried playing it on hard though. Hmmm.

I recently tried pirating the gog version but it ran like total ass on my system. Shame because I really want to revisit Carmageddon.

If you've got at least a good Core2 system the 320x200 software version should run fine in DosBox. Give the Win95 patch a try as well. It doesn't come bundled by default due to some compatibility issues, but it usually works fine for me.

Anyone watch Giantbomb UPF this week, when Dan gave C1 about 2mins and dismissed it?
I love that endearing idiot, but his dense approach to C1, and Tomb Raider a couple of weeks ago, really got on my tits.
