Rondo and the original are closely tied in my mind, CV1 for the relatively minimalist approach it takes and Rondo for showing what can be done by taking the formula and cranking the production up to 11.

Bloodlines has a special place in my heart just for being so overlooked.

SotN looks and sounds beautiful, and the castle is a wonderful place to explore and so full of tiny touches that show it was made with real love. I just desperately wish there was some challenge there beyond the self-imposed.

Order of Ecclasia gets mad love for being classic CV in Metroidvania trousers. Lovely.

Not him, but I liked some of the changes they did to the remake, such as some levels that used to be meh on the original got completely redesigned, and the dracula fight is actually challenging this time. I also don't think the 3D graphics were bad, actually, I like the detailed backgrounds, the original Rondo has some pretty levels, like the first one, but many of the levels have very bland backgrounds.

I thought the port of the original was fine, I seem to remember some people complaining about slight differences on the display or something with the PSP filtering, but the actual gameplay and content of the game is the same, so that's good enough for me. After all it's a portable game, it's obvious it won't look the same as on a TV. But it looks good enough, I think (I use the original resolution though, otherwise it looks stretched, same with SOTN)

I also prefer the sprites to the 3D, but I don't think it looks bad either. And as I said, they added a lot of detail on the backgrounds which the original lacks.

As for Kojima... I like her actually, not a big fan and I also like the barbarian belmonts of the classic games, or the 90s Ryuitcher of the original Rondo, but Kojima ain't bad either.

Anyway I get it, you don't like the remake.
Not going to change your mind over subjective things (char design, sprites vs 3D), but I do really think they improved some levels and the dracula fight.

Oh also the boss rush mode with co-op multiplayer, that's a sweet extra.

Dude, I also prefer 2D sprites over 3D models, but you can't say 3D games can't do 2D gameplay. Would you say Goemon's Great Adventure was a bad game? It's considered one of the best in the entire series.
There's a lot of other 2.5D platformers that are pretty good despite having 3D graphics.

That's the keyword. Goemon's Great Adventure would undoubtably work better with 2D for its 2-dimensional gameplay segments. 3D graphics with shifting perspectives simply do not facilitate intuitive understanding of collision zones for 2D interactions as well as 2D graphics do.

>> No.1915731

>hideous 3D diarrhea having no business in a mechanically 2D game
The 3D int he remake is actually an improvement, but that may be subjective. What's objective is that whether the graphical engine is 2D or 3D is irrelevant. You're full of shit.

>AS IF FUCKING 3D IS INHERENTLY BETTER.
3D is inherently better. It wasn't used in the original game not because the artists liked piel-painting (which they didn't), but because 2D was all that their hardware was capable of at the time.

There were a lot of parts in GGA with branching paths where you could take alternate routes on the back of the screen and the camera would change, so even if it's a 2D game, it has some 3D elements too. I think the game looks fine on 3D.

>3D graphics with shifting perspectives simply do not facilitate intuitive understanding of collision zones for 2D interactions as well as 2D graphics do.

it works surprisingly good for GGA, and I also didn't have any problem with Dracula X Chronicles. I actually found DXC to be a bit easier than the original.

Which is the best version to emulate on a PC?

From the ones I played, my favorite was SotN. People say it's an easy game, but it's not that easy actually. The challenge comes most from exploring the castle and discovering stuff than the enemies and obstacles themselves, though, so after you already know everything about the game, there's not really much left and it becomes really easy.

Hardest is definitely Castlevania 3. It's one game I'm proud to have beaten.

Shading, perspective, reusability. Animated 2D graphics for modern resolutions that don't look flat or cheap are very hard to produce. Cost-effectiveness, yes.
