What do you think about I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream?

>> No.1914581

/vr/ loves it. In fact, it's probably our favorite P&C despite only being an 8/10 one. It's edgy but darkly humorous plus individual chapters are short and satisfying which makes it fairly ideal for 4chan types to be introduced to the genre.

It's one of my favourites.
It's not perfect by any means. Some of the puzzles are dumb (though it could be a lot worse) and the final scenario seems rushed and makes little sense.
However, the writing and the setting more than makes up for it. It's one of the few games where the story actually affected me and I affected cared about the characters.
If anything you should play it just for the uniqueness of it.

I think it's better than the Walking Dead game.

The puzzles are unnecessarily abstract and punitive, but it has a great setting and atmosphere. The artwork is beautiful.
The idea of exploring these characters that just sort of existed in the short story was brilliant.
Still, not a very intuitive point and click game.

Someone please explain what this shitposting about edgy is and why is "being edgy" a negative thing? I don't see people screaming EDGY about Doom and such games where all you see and do is killing and mutilating knee deep in satanic imagery.

>> No.1930535

Being "edgy" is trying to get attention through misanthropy, or thinking you're enlightened, deep, emotionally scarred, or an outcast because you don't like thing or poorly imitate psychopathic tendencies.

Or are an actual psychopath and are just an egomaniac and think you're soooo fucking scary because of it.

Basically, as a society we're no longer shocked or impressed with moustache-twirling evil.

DOOM is just mindless fun, and has no correlation to actually maiming people.

>> No.1930552

it has an amazing story but like some people have mentioned, a lot of the puzzles can be obtuse. for instance, i got through the nazi chapter, but i didnt activate the golem or whatever. and i just got outright stuck on the desert gas station part, apparently i had to do something absolutely retarded with the spilled punch that i have no idea how anybody would think of doing especially because whenever you interact with it you normally die so you avoid it. oh well. i havent tried this game with a guide, but im honestly just straight up considering doing it so i can actually enjoy it, which is something i try my goddamn hardest not to do with adventure games

No, weren't you listening?

It's trite to, specifically for sales/attention/to appear super knowledgeable, make media that's so rife with it that it becomes monothematic.

The original short story was definitely getting into this territory as was a lot of sci-fi of the same time period, but that was largely caused by the repressive culture of the day and it does seem like the author had a theme in mind, rather than just throwing together edginess and relying on shock value.

Of course, at the time people lapped it up regardless, or gave satisfyingly shocked reactions.

The best way to solve puzzles involves trying to make each of the characters overcome their own personal traumas and sins, to lead them to being the best people they can be, despite the horrible circumstances. This is the exact opposite of misanthropy.
