It definitely had great marketing, and I really enjoyed the game (it's a solid shooter/platformer) but there are better Genesis games.

I always hated the character design though. A bunch of balls? It was like an edgy version of Kirby. Maybe if it was an older game I'd say "hey, this was a good way to get better animations or something," but the Genesis had plenty of power to do good animations of normal looking characters. I don't get it, man.

I really enjoyed the first one but never got into the second one. The first level of V2 seemed really dark (literally dark, as in hard to see) and confusing, so I gave up pretty quick. Is it worth giving a second chance?

It wasn't a bad game, having played a lot of 16 bit games I'd say it was mediocre with few very fun moments. Kind of like modern Call of Duty games past.

You have a point though, it was probably the last hugely advertised game for the Genesis. Ads for it were fucking everywhere, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been anything more than an obscure shooter "for gamers looking for something almost as good as the classics" if not for the major marketing campaign for it.

It does have a certain charm though, in my mind it's a solid B, "good effort." It just doesn't stand up to A titles like Gunstar Heroes.

This would represent the perspective of spinning the camera in an outward curve (distant objects pass through the field of vision faster than close objects).

Many games simulate the camera moving in an inward curve, where close objects move considerably faster than far objects.

Both types of parallaxes are exaggerations on what you would really see, but since the earth is spherical you normally perceive closer things as moving faster when you're travelling straight and looking at a 90 degree angle.

It's been a long time since I was super into reliving Genesis classics, but I remember the general consensus about Streets of Rage series was that 2 was the best, 3 took one step forward (special meter or something like that) and two steps back, and 1 had the breakable beer bottles and cool police assaults but otherwise wasn't worth playing over the other two.

How wrong am I? It's been a long time, like I've said. I'll probably replay the whole trilogy sometime this week when I have time, but I'm interested in any opinions that might enrich my next experiences with these classics.

2 is the worst game in the series, its an unfinished mess, it removed weapons like breakable bottles and gas bombs, removed team/coop attacks, removed stage hazards like pits, you can throw fat guys like normal guys.

Also the combat mechanics in 2 are broken and you can just jab, stop, jab infinite everything in the game till its dead.

SoR3 is outright the best game in the series, it brings back all the stuff from SoR1 that was missing in SoR2, the new characters are more fun to play as, the levels are great with lots of diversity and more than just move left to right. Boss fights are fun and not just copy pasted normal enemies like in 2. gameplay is fast and smooth and the game is full of extras.

SoR 2 is like one of those cheesy professional porn videos with ridiculous plots, it's got better production values and still gets you rock hard but it's silly. However, the silliness is part of the charm, isn't it?

SoR 3 is like when a porn star retires from the industry but then starts a webcam show. If you're a big fan it's still awesome, but she lacks the appeal of amateur/fresh webcam shows. That said, I only played the American version and I guess the Japanese version is better?

SOR2 was the Street Fighter 2 of beatem ups, as far as balance went. Level design was also very good, except for the elevator on stage 7 which was just a grinder.

The environmental hazards weren't really needed because the hand-to-hand combat was incredible well done. Masterful hitboxes.

Jab infinite only works against single enemies, if any one guy hits you in the back, it is all ogre unless you use a special to break out of the enemy combo. The only enemies you faced 1 on 1 were a few bosses and those always had some other protection against this (invincibility on wake up, blocking, specials of their own).

It also had very good variation of enemies and awesome graphics. One stage even had rotating backgrounds.

Maybe it could've used the weapon specials from BK3, as long as you drop them when doing super moves, for balance reasons (without a weapon meter, the weapon specials would be overpowered).

SOR2 was only slow paced on PAL systems, on NTSC it was just right. Max could devastate instantly as long as he could lay a hand on the enemy, Skate had a dash so he could get in close to grab (all his best moves are grabs), Axel could just let niggas come in close because he was the best player in hand-to-hand, and Blaze was a woman so she wasn't good at anything other than flashing her panties (which got edited out).

BK3 was a huge step back in balance, level design, and graphics. Music was pretty funky though, but not all tunes matched the game.

>karate man and kangaroo just have fast attacks.

Shiva has the best speed and range in the game, plus an infinity, an instant knockdown move with again good range, and can slam dunk the Big Bens. His super attack does the most damage in the game iirc.

His main problem is that he can't do his standing super like the AI can, has no proper dash attack, cannot use weapons (he doesn't need them though), and his standing combo really got nerfed from the SOR2 version (3-hit bitch slap, palm strike, 4-hit kick vs 2 poorly animated palm strikes, a head crusher, and a 1-hit kick). And his standing grab hold move was the palm strike which was extremely awkward.

He was easily the most powerful character in BK3/SOR3, it's just that that game had fuck all balance to begin with - you could just run and drop kick for the entire game.

As for Roo, he was a fucking kangaroo. I admit that he was weak and useless and only had like six moves in total, but can you name any other kangaroos in a beat em up? He even had his own character art!

Try playing the game in any difficulty above Very Easy.

The one thing Kid Chameleon lacked was a fucking map. I never knew if I was making progress or not when I left a level. SO many alternate exits and routes, I never could determine what route was the faster.

Hahaha oh man, I remember when that was new. I wanted it so bad, but my mother wouldn't let us play it because it was too violent. I guess there was some kind of media controversy about that game when it was released. I played through it a few years ago and it was pretty rad, but I think I would have liked it a lot more when I was younger.

This was a great game, one of the first ones I ever owned on my genesis. I remember finding this game really creepy when I was a kid. To this day something about the game feels 'off'. Maybe because the design was so wierd, having no idea where you were progress wise, levels that warped you backwards, paths that could loop infinitley if you didn't find the right exit. I don't know, but it was the first game I remember thinking was 2spoopy.
