Can someone who owns one of these give a review? Thanks

>> No.1908662

They are good if you enjoy not being able to see the screen unless you are under direct sunlight or have a shitty light accessory shining on it.

Considering how much a GB Boy costs, it's not that bad. Especially when you compare it to the GBA.

Nah, man. I'm mostly kidding. We're all pals here.
I'm kinda interested in one of these GB Boys, but the aspect ratio turns me off.

OP here

Decided to pick one up. For only $30, it doesn't seem like it would be a loss so long as it works. Plus I have a GB everdrive which is confirmed to work on that thing.

Love the tards that can't tell the difference between consoles, love the aspect ratio queens even more.

So they have a cartridge port as well as built in games? Do you know if the Gameshark and Mega Memory Card work?

What are you talking about he has the pokemon edition gameboy color

Yes cart port as well as built in games. I've seen you tube reviews and the like that show this thing working and it seems to do well. The only downside I've seen/read is that it is a micro moment slower than the real GB/GBC but is only noticable if doing a side by side comparison with the music synced.

No idea if gameshark or mega memory card would work. Never used those things to begin with. I wouldn't see an issue with their use as all other attachments seem to work on it. It also seems to be able to handle any game thrown at it so far.

I'm eager to play some games on a better screen so as to avoid the whole playing in a lighted area. The GBA-101 doesn't do it for me, I hate having the extra cart space stick out. I also use everdrives for all my systems so having this with the everdrive will make it a "never change carts system". Just need an AC thereafter for couch play.

This thread isn't about gameboy. It's about GB boy.

I keep wanting to get one of these, but then I remember I have a Gameboy Micro with an EZFlash IV and goomba set up for all the gameboy games i want.

Sometimes I do just want to drop a bunch of cash on carts though

Why couldn't they make a LCD at the same size of the original one is beyond me.

Also I think Hyperkin or Retrobit should make a GameBoy Clone, with the correct resolution. I'd buy it if it was good.

GB Boy is terrible. Don't do it. Just get an AGS-101. I know you're all nostalgic for the classic GBC shape, but the actual hardware is terrible.

Right off the bat you can tell that the screen has the wrong aspect ratio. And due to this, the image isn't sharp; it has this weird fuzziness and it looks awful. The brightness is nice, but the actual image quality is shit. The colors are also heavily oversaturated, but the GBA has this problem too so it isn't a con vs. the AGS-101 (though it is a con vs. an actual GBC).

The sound is shit. It isn't faithful to the original, but even worse than that, the built-in speaker is wired to only output half of the stereo audio. So any game that doesn't explicitly have a "mono" setting (which is quite a lot of them) will be missing audio unless you use an external speaker/headphones.

Aside from the glaring video/audio problems, the CPU is clocked too slow, so games run slower than on a real GBC, and the buttons are crap, especially the d-pad. I hope you like thumb cramps.

It just doesn't live up to the real thing. It's a cheap, Chinese knockoff, and as such it's exactly what you'd expect. People only give it any attention because of the wow factor behind "classic GBC with a bright screen!!!". If you're actually serious about playing GBC games, just get an AGS-101.

By the way, I forgot to mention that the link port doesn't actually work for most games, notably Pokemon. The IR port on top is also just plain fake, if you were planning on using that too.

I also don't understand why you wanna use this with a flashcart. The point of a flashcart is being able to play old games that you don't own copies of on real hardware. The point of a clone console is to play games you have copies of when you no longer have the hardware. If you're gonna get a clone machine to run flashcarts, you may as well just emulate. Current GBC emulators are more faithful than these clones.

>> No.1910369

>>1910281
Don't care about the IR or link port, it's not like I run into pokemon players on the street who happen to be looking for people playing blue while I play red and blah blah blah. Just looking to play games that are not darkened and hard to see.

I collect flashcarts, have one for my genesis,nes,snes,n64, GB/GBC, GBA, DSi. Being a flashcart collector, as appose to a game collector, allows me to focus purchases on hardware and not software. Any game that won't run on flash cart can either be emulated or is crappy enough to not want to bother with it.

Where someone will purchase $30 one weekend to buy a handful of games, I would put that money to a new controller, device, or system instead. Needless to say, I don't spend much at all on gaming at all so wasting here and there is of no issue as compared to the person who needs to have a CIB eartbound and chrono trigger or whatever.
