4th wall discussion. Where else have developers in vidya done such things?

Dinosaur from Falcom apparently breaks it on occasion, with flavor text pointing out some tropes common to first-person dungeon crawlers.

I think that's more like winking at the player. It's a legitimate question your character could ask the guard, it's just worded very gamely.

Bioshock 1 "would you kindly"

And I suppose even the HUD's in Crysis and Deus Ex being part of the characters equipment.

Final Fantasy 8 does it occasionally, like when Ward says he won't say a word until the end of the "game". Laguna and Squall become suddenly aware they're video game character like once or twice during the whole story.

EarthBound references Nintendo, asks for the player's name, "Come back when you finish EarthBound!", and a few other things I'm sure.

Not 4th wall. Which is funny, because it's in a series that is otherwise constantly talking to the player.

>>1911932
>would you kindly
Not 4th wall, it's used as a kind of meta joke but it's entirely in-universe amongst the characters.

>>1911971
Borderline meta humor but still isn't directly saying "you, the player, stop making me jump into walls" or anything like that.
